George Egan Obituary
WOONSOCKET - George Martell Egan of Woonsocket, RI passed away on
December 26th, 2024, at age 85. Beloved brother of
Joanne Shea, Kensington, MD, Andrea Didden and husband Albert, Kensington, MD, Reverend Thomas F. Egan, Worcester, MA, and Jay A. Egan, Honolulu, HI. A loving uncle and great uncle, George was predeceased by parents George W. Egan and Louise (Martell) Egan.
George was born and raised in Woonsocket, RI. He graduated from Mount Saint Charles Academy (1957), Dean Junior College (1959), Rockford College (1961), and Rhode Island College.
In 1959, George was drafted into the Army and assigned to Missile Technician School in Huntsville, AL. He then began his long career as a teacher and guidance counselor, retiring as Assistant Principal at Coventry High School. George saw the inherent goodness in and strove to help every student. George was Chairman of the Coventry Teachers Federal Credit Union Board of Directors.
George was a championship hockey coach at Ponaganset and Coventry High Schools. He was President of the RI Hockey Coaches Association and RI Interscholastic League Director of Hockey. George was a member of the Coventry High Athletic Hall of Fame and RI Interscholastic League Hall of Fame.
George grew up as a Boy Scout and dedicated 25 years to Camp Yawgoog as an adult supervisor, counselor, and Medicine Bow Camp Director.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, January 6th at 11:00 am in St. Charles Borromeo Church, No. Main & Daniels St., Woonsocket, RI. VISITING HOURS will be at Kubaska Funeral Home, 33 Harris Ave, Woonsocket, RI, on Sunday, January 5th from 3:00pm - 7:00pm. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
