Laurent Ethier Obituary

EAST FALMOUTH, Mass. – Laurent B. "Larry" Ethier, 84, of East Falmouth, Mass., and formerly of Woonsocket and Smithfield, died Monday April 2, 2018 at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.
He was the loving husband of Claire L. (Ayotte) Ethier. They were married on June 30, 1996. He was also the husband of the late Louise J. (Dagenais) Ethier who passed away in 1991.
Born and raised in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late Sylvio and Johanna (Paris) Ethier. He was a graduate of Mt. St. Charles Academy, Woonsocket.
Mr. Ethier served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was stationed in Japan for two years where he was head of the maintenance department for planes returning from Korea. He received a commendation for this work in Japan.
Upon returning to Woonsocket, he worked for a time as a welder in Franklin, Mass., and then began working with the Blackstone Valley Electric Co., and Eastern Utilities affiliate. While employed he studied at the Vocational Technical School in RI becoming a blueprint reading/drafting specialist. He held positions as Substation Operator, Control Center Operator and Draftsman. He was employed by the same company for over 35 years and retired in 1996. Eastern Utilities is now National Grid.

Larry was an antique car enthusiast and a member of the Falmouth Car Club. He took great pride and care in his pristine blue 1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme convertible. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially the ocean, was a strong swimmer and took long walks all over the Cape.
Larry traveled throughout the United States and Canada.
Larry was a voracious reader and had a curious mind. He could and would strike up a conversation about anything with just about anyone. Larry will be remembered as a gregarious and friendly gentleman.
In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons Steven L. Ethier and wife Linda of CA, David R. Ethier and his wife Sharon of New York and a daughter Michelle M. Siddall and her husband Jim of Smithfield. He was the brother of the late Normand, Bertrand, Marcel and Robert Ethier and is also survived by his grandchildren Kristin, Christopher, Amber, Micaela, Rachel and Jessica and great-granddaughter Tessa. Larry is also survived by Claire's family including her children Robert W. St. Laurent, Susan P. Powell, Diane C. St. Laurent and granddaughter Rachel Powell and the late Ross Powell. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday May 5, 2018 at 10 a.m. in Precious Blood Church, 94 Carrington Ave. Woonsocket, RI. Committal services with military honors will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland. Arrangements are in care of the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave. Woonsocket, RI.

There will also be a Memorial Mass in remembrance and celebration of his life in East Falmouth. The service will be held at St. Anthony's Church, 167 E. Falmouth Hwy on Saturday June 2, 2018 at 10 a.m. It would be an honor to have members of The Oldsmobile Club of America, The Falmouth Car Club in attendance. Larry was a very active historian for many years with the Falmouth Car Club. We also would be pleased and grateful to have members of the Fisherman's Cove Association in attendance. He was an active member since 1996.
