Rene Taillon Obituary

WOONSOCKET – Rene A. Taillon, 82, of Woonsocket died Saturday morning at Woonsocket Health & Rehab Center. He was the loving husband of Jeannine C. (Badeau) Taillon. They were married on Aug. 6, 1955.

Born and raised in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late Elphege and Rose (Frenette) Taillon.

Mr. Taillon was a veteran of the U.S Marine Corps serving during the Korean War. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal.

Mr. Taillon was a professional truck driver and was employed by several area transportation firms.

Rene was a longtime parishioner of Precious Blood Church and served as the parish sexton. He was a member of Teamsters Local 251, the Cercle Laurier and the V.F.W.

Rene cherished his role as a father and grandfather. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events and traveling to a number of places both at home and abroad where his son was stationed in the service. Rene treasured family gatherings and playing a good hand of cards with friends. Rene and Jeannine also could be found participating in activities at the Woonsocket senior center.
Rene's legacy is embodied in the tradition of the Marine Corps motto "Semper Fi" through his service to Church, Corps and Country and his love and devotion to his family.

In addition to his wife of over 60 years, he is survived by two sons, Rene L. Taillon and his wife, Kimberly, of Chepachet; and Col. Donald L. Taillon U.S. Army and his wife, Leanne, of Georgia. He was the brother of Lorraine Landry and the late Ernest, Gerard, Lionel, Albert, George, William and Normand Taillon, Lea Desplaines, Rita Smith, Jeannette Sjoblom and Irene Taillon. He is also survived by his grandchildren Matthew, Joshua, Aleshia, Nicholas, Nolan and Kaylee Taillon and many nieces and nephews and their families.

His funeral will be Thursday at 9 a.m. from the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave., Woonsocket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Precious Blood Church, Carrington Ave. Woonsocket. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery, Bellingham.

Visiting hours are Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Woonsocket Health & Rehab Center, 262 Poplar St. Woonsocket, R.I., 02895.
