Richard Johnson Obituary

LINCOLN - Richard C. Johnson, 87, of Old Jenckes Hill Road, died Sunday, October 30, 2016, at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center, Providence. He was the beloved husband of the late Doris (Hertneck) Johnson.
Born in Pawtucket, a son of the late Carl F. and Ruth (Lenberg) Johnson, he had lived in Lincoln for the past fifty-six years.
Mr. Johnson was a URI graduate and worked as an Insurance Underwriter for the former Home Insurance Co. and Providence-Washington Insurance Co., and retiring from Starkweather & Shepley.
Dick loved to make music, and was a member of the R.I. Civic Chorale & Orchestra and the Verdandi Swedish Male Chorus. He was a member of the Lime Rock Baptist Church, where he was a member of the choir, and served as the chairperson of the Music Committee. He never lost touch with his inner child, which enabled him to be an excellent storyteller and jokester; he truly had a presence. Dick was passionate about politics and social justice, and never hesitated to share his opinion.
He was a former member of the Board of Directors of the Scandinavian Home, Cranston, and was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War.
He is survived by one daughter, Kristina Guadagni of Lincoln; one son, Erik Johnson of Midlothian, VA; and five grandchildren: Rachael and Nathan Guadagni of Rhode Island, and Jessica and Benjamin Johnson and Erika Kurtis of Virginia. He was the brother of the late Priscilla Dickson, and the twin brother of the late Robert Johnson.
His funeral service, and burial in Riverside Cemetery, Pawtucket, will be private. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory to the Rhode Island Swedish Heritage Foundation (RISHA) P.O. Box 1023, East Greenwich, R.I. 02818, or to WGBH, 1 Guest Street, Boston, MA 02135, would be appreciated. For online guest book, please visit www.bellowsfuneralchapel.com. Our deepest sympathy to the Guadagni/Johnson family at this time of great loss. Dick was a wonderful friend who shared his love of music, singing, & many stories. We will miss him playing the harmonica & I, especially will miss singing any and all Patriotic songs with a very proud man who served this country for our freedom. God Bless you Dick.
In sympathy & friendship, Jean Guadagni
