Richard Reesor Obituary
Richard passed away peacefully on July 10, 2025, at the age of 94. Though heart failure gradually took him from us, his gentle spirit, deep faith, and enduring love remain forever in the lives he touched.
At the center of Richard's life was his 62 year marriage to his beloved wife, Margaret. Their love was steadfast and true-a model to us of devotion and loyalty. At age 93, Richard got a tattoo in her honor, a testament to the unwavering bond they shared.
Together, Richard and Margaret raised four children: Cathy (Troy) Anderson, Nancy (Joe) Snodgrass, Robert (Julie) Reesor, and Thomas (Joan) Reesor. He was a proud grandfather to 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Richard was unwavering to care for and provide for his family. He took immense joy in their accomplishments. His presence and quiet strength created lasting traditions-always generous, always proud.
Faith was the cornerstone of Richard's life. His deep relationship with God guided his words and deeds. Whether worshipping at mass, serving the community, or simply sharing moments with loved ones, Richard lived his faith daily with humility and conviction.
Born on the south side of Chicago, Illinois, Richard graduated from Fenger High School, where he played football. He went on to attend Western Illinois University, and then enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served an officer in Japan during the Korean War.
Following his military service, Richard pursued a career in meteorology. After working at offices in various locations, he settled into the National Weather Service/NOAA office located at the Greater Rockford Airport. He retired after 37 years as the Chief Meteorologist. He truly was fascinated with weather; not just observing it, but also meticulously reporting the details of the sky.
One of Richard's greatest passions was volunteering in his community. He was a man of action and heart-whether he was hauling a trailer of goats for the Heifer International Foundation, reading aloud for those with vision impairment, or helping rebuild homes with Habitat for Humanity alongside President Jimmy Carter in Georgia. Together Richard and Margaret shared a commitment to service that introduced them to and connected them with amazing people across the country.
Richard spent his final months at Cherryvale Place, where he received compassionate and dignified care. In his final days, Hospice staff provided loving support and comfort to Richard and his family-a gift for which we are deeply grateful.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Sterling and Alice Miller; brother, Jack; his cherished wife, Margaret; and his son-in-law, Troy Anderson. We take comfort in knowing they are welcoming him home with open arms.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, August 18, at Arlington Cemetery, 6202 Charles Street, Rockford, Illinois 61108. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Trustwell Living at Cherryvale Place, 1545 Temple Lane, Rockford, IL 61112. We are deeply indebted to the caring staff at this facility.
Richard lived with faith, served with love, and gave his whole heart to everything he did. He packed a whole lot of living into his 94 years and will never be forgotten.
