Doug West Obituary

William Douglas West, 73, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at NMMC-Tupelo.  Doug was born on the family farm in Hatley on June 15, 1951 to the late James Ervin and Loy Austin West.  He was a graduate of Hatley High School and married Lois Jean Nash on December 7, 1974.  Growing up and working on the farm led to a passion of raising hogs and row crop farming that Doug always held near to his heart.  Even after he quit farming, Doug enjoyed keeping up with the farming industry through television shows and articles.  After farming, Doug worked a few years at the tractor dealership in Smithville.

Doug is fondly remembered by students and faculty alike from his time working at Hatley School. While at the school, Doug was always a friendly face with a quick wit.  For many years, he was the same quick witted, friendly and helpful face behind the counter at Autozone in Amory.  He loved to talk mechanics with his many customers who became his friends.  More than Anything, Doug had a love for antiques and other unique treasures.  He helped to found and start the 41 Flea Market in Wren.  He also owned and operated antique shops, arcades and sold fireworks in several locations in Hatley.  Later in life, Doug could often be seen at his store at the 4 way stop in Hatley, entertaining customers and giving a friendly wave to passerby's.  He also enjoyed visiting with the Amish and exploring every produce stand he came by.

To those that knew and loved Doug, he will always be remembered for his friendly personality, desire to help others and a great sense of humor.  He dearly cherished time with his family and was a member of New Hope Church of Christ.

Doug is survived by his wife of nearly 51 years, Lois Jean West; daughter, Angela West Burdine, Amory; son, Kevin West (Telisha), Amory; sister, Jeanette Kent (Gerald), Amory; brother, Harold West (Sharla), Amory; grandchildren, Paige Ashley (Mark), Ally Jackson (Mitch), Logan West (Summer), Hayden West, Haley West, Paytn West, Drake West, Laiyla West; great grandchildren, Sawyer Ashley, Sydney Brooke Ashley, Waylon Jackson, Archer Jackson and Camryn West; nieces and nephews, Amy Johnson (Mark), Heather Munn (Jason), Jason West (Lori), Lauren Schoolar (Brandon), Drew Kent (Korie) and Cole Kent; a host of great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to his parents, Doug is preceded in death by an infant sister; brother, Wayne West; nieces, Shane West and Brooke Kent; father and mother in law, Billy Joe and Hazel Millican.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 PM on Monday, February 17, 2025 at Cleveland Moffett Funeral Home in Amory with Mr. David West officiating.  Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Logan West, Paytn West, Hayden West, Drake West, Mark Ashley, Sawyer Ashley, Mitch Jackson, Drew Kent, Cole Kent and Brandon Schoolar.
