Audrey V. Shearstone, 88, died at 3:35 p.m. on Monday, May 30, 2016 at SpiriTrust Lutheran Home at Sprenkle Drive. She was the wife of the late William J. Shearstone, who was deceased since October 22, 1998.
Born January 6, 1928, in North York, she was the daughter of the late Howard L. "Bootie" Zeigler and Amanda Virginia (Young) Zeigler to whom many knew only as "Ginny".
Audrey was a graduate of North York High School, Class of 1946. She was secretary and treasurer of her class in the late years.
She was employed at the Dentist's Supply Co. from 1946 to 1964.
After that she was a homemaker until 1973 when she worked at Weigelstown Elementary School as a regular aide and then a Special Education Aide, a job which she just loved until she retired in 1993.
Audrey was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, from where she was baptized, confirmed, married and buried.
She enjoyed playing BINGO.
Audrey is survived by two sons, William J. Shearstone II and wife, Joyce of York and Thomas H. Shearstone of East Berlin; three grandchildren, Amanda, Derek and Marianna; a great-granddaughter, Natilee; a brother, Philip H. Zeigler of Indiana; a niece, Audrey; and a nephew, Mark. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a niece, Valerie.
Following cremation, relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Audrey's memorial service at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 6, 2016 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 947 N. George St., York, with a visitation to follow. Officiating will be her pastor, the Rev. Beth Schlegel. Burial will be private in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Emig Funeral Home, Dover, is serving the family.
