Clair Swartzbaugh Obituary

YORK Clair E. Swartzbaugh, 62, died on Monday, July 27, 2009, at York Hospital fol lowing a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Darlene Jacobs Swartzbaugh. They would have celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on October 25, 2009. Born in York, he was the son of the late Irwin G. and Dorothy L. Day Swartzbaugh. He retired on disability from the York Casket Company where he was employed for 17 years. He last worked in the company's repair department. Clair was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. Mr. Swartzbaugh was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Columbia where he served as an usher. Clair was a member of the East Prospect Fish & Game Association and the Abel-Poff-Leithieser American Legion Post in Wrightsville. Surviving, besides his wife are his mother-in-law, Annabelle Vecero, who resided with him; sisters, Patricia wife of Rick Bennett of York and Karen McCullough of Shrewsbury; sister-in-law, Louetta, wife of Ray Hilt of South Carolina; brother-inlaw, John, husband of Beverly Vecero, Jr. of York; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Swartzbaugh. A Funeral Mass will be held from St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 340 Locust St., Columbia, on Saturday, August 1, 2009, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. J. Patrick Peters officiating. There will be no viewing, however the family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 12 to 1 p.m. Full military honors will be accorded by the York Co. Veterans Honor Guard at the church. The family requests that flowers be omitted. Contributions in Clair's memory may be made to the Memorial Fund of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 340 Locust St., Columbia, PA 17512. Arrangements are by the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, Inc., 519 Walnut St., Columbia. 717-684-2370.

Oh my, I am so sorry to hear of Clairs passing. I so remember the days at Doc Langers office and how very much I loved you both and enjoyed your smiles and the love the two of you projected onto all who were lucky enough to be in your company. I have so many fond memories of my big brother. As a child, he was my hero and I looked up to him. He was a blessing in so many ways. Forty years ago he blessed our family with the love of his life, Darlene. They truly are an inspiration of love. I'll miss you Clair. Love you.
