Susan Julius Obituary

YORK Susan E. Julius, 86, died on Wednesday, February 9, 2011, at the Village at Sprenkle Drive Nursing & Rehab Center. Susan was the wife of the late William W. Julius. Born in Adams Co., on March 2, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Paul E. and Mary N. (Shaw) Witman. Many in the York community may remember Susan as co-owner, along with her late husband, of the T and J Ice Cream Shop on Harrison St. in East York. After Sue and Bill sold the shop, she was employed by Bon Ton Foods, Inc. for 11 years, and later by Stanley Tool Co. for three years. In earlier times, Susan enjoyed spending time at the Lake Clark Boat and Susquehanna Yacht Clubs along the Susquehanna River. She cherished the friendships she made at the clubs. Susan was known for crocheting angels that were sold at Hearts and Hands, the York County Area Agency on Aging Store. She loved gardening. She was always outside caring for her plants while having friendly chats with neighbors. Family was important to her. If she needed to know anything, she could always count on the "Witman Hot Line" for the latest news. She leaves a daughter, Joyce E. Glatfelter; six grandchildren, Kristin, William, Cathy, Debbie, Tracey, and Michael; three stepgrandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Paul Witman, Robert Witman, and Charles Witman; and three sisters, Charlotte King, Treva Lehman, and Mary Kalinoski. She was preceded in death by two sons, Thomas W. Julius and Jeffrey P. Julius; a sister, Naomi Mummert; and a granddaughter, Crickett Julius. Viewing will be 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Koller Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., 2000 W. Market St. in York. The service will follow on Saturday at 11 a.m. Officiating will be the Rev. Richard B. Starr. Burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 301 N. Union St., Middletown, PA 17057; or payable to Crickett's Answer for Cancer, 1110 Skyview Drive, York, PA 17406. To share memories, please visit www.rfkoller.com

Joyce, Bob, Kristin,
So sorry for your loss. Joyce, I have to smile when I think of the two of us struggling to keep up with your mom as she charged down the hall with her oxygen tank. She was a stong, caring woman, traits I see reflected in you and Kristin. You all did a great job caring for her as her health failed. She will be missed..

I remember growing up on W. Philadelphia St. two doors down from "Mrs. J" as we called her. She would always be out working in her garden and would always take a break to visit with me and the other neighborhood kids who were out playing.
My thoughts and prayers are with her family.

Joyce, Bob, Kristen and family, I'm so sorry for the loss. I only knew your mom, Joyce, for a short time - but I saw her as a sassy, strong lady, and she was taken care of by your family very well. Love was there in the end for all. My heart goes out to you in this time of healing. Love you, Tracey Clark

Joyce,
Some of the GNO's still have their starched crochet angel your mom made us back in the 80's. She was a character!! You and Bob where great standing by her and making sure she was taken care of. She is at peace and healed, ushered in by God and embraced by Paul, Tom, Jeff and Crickett; and all her questions are being answered.

Love,
Gooch

Mama- I love you more than words can ever express & will miss you so much. You were always there for me, as a friend & as a grandma. I know you are finally free from suffering & that you are probably frolicking on the beach with Papa. I'm so glad I got to talk with you one last time before you passed. You will always live in my heart as the beautiful, loving, amazing woman that you were :) Rest in peace.
