HAMLET, N.C. — Bobby Allen Jordan, 81, of Hamlet, passed away on Friday, Sept. 18, 2015 at Saint Joseph of the Pines in Southern Pines surrounded by family members. He fought a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
Mr. Jordan was born Dec. 29, 1933 in Richmond County, a son of the late Arter and Ollie Landon Jordan. He was a former member of Faith Baptist Church in Rockingham and a longtime member of Second Baptist Church in Hamlet.
Mr. Jordan had to temporarily interrupt his education in the eighth grade to help support his family but later completed high school at night through the Veterans Program. He started his career by working for Frank Richardson at Outside Furniture Company from 1960-1964 and in 1964 opened Bobby's Furniture Inc. located at 908 E. Broad Ave. in Rockingham as the owner-operator. He later opened a second location at 218 Raleigh St. in Hamlet, which continues to operate today. He retired in 1995 turning the management over to his oldest son, Allen Jordan, but he remained active in the operations of the business.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by all his siblings, Margaret Stokes, Paulette McLean, Hazel Lampley, Viola Dutton, A.C. Jordan and Donald Jordan.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Bobbie Gibson Jordan of the home; children, Allen Jordan and wife Cindy of Hamlet, Terry Jordan and wife Dawn of Rockingham, Randy Jordan and wife Christy of Rockingham and Ricky Jordan of Rockingham; six grandchildren, Walt Wood and wife Randi, Brian Wood and wife Kristen, David Jordan and wife Casey, Madison Jordan, Savannah Jordan and Carson Jordan; five great-grandchildren, Jordan Wood, Nathan Wood, Graysen Wood, Emma Rae Wood and Paislee Jordan; sister-in-law, Doris (Dot) Soloman and husband Junior; nieces, nephews and special friends, Norman and Rita Bland and Nanet Taylor.
The family saw friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at the Family Educational Center at Second Baptist Church in Hamlet and at other times at the home.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday in the sanctuary of Second Baptist Church with the Rev. Chris Hawks officiating. Entombment followed at Richmond Memorial Park.
