As his family and friends gather today in Yuma, I am thinking of the Mark I've know since I was 14 years old; a high school boyfriend and my friend till his last days. Growing up in Yuma in the 70's - 80's you had to get creative to have some fun, and Mark was great at that. Hanging out at the river, desert parties, late night hopping the fence at the trailer parks to borrow the hot tub with our friends.Mark was always a sweetheart and the life of the party. His plan after high school was to join the Army with his best friend Cody Kern. When Cody died in an accident right after high school, he kept that commitment and went on to serve his country, taking a bullet and went on to do more than anyone knows. When Mark knew his health was compromised, he devoted his time to traveling, enjoying life and spending time time with all of his friends and especially his Yuma people. When he told me he was in the process of moving back to Yuma, I asked why, and he said "after all I have seen, I think it's where I want to end.Was the best of times." He is survived by his precious daughter, the apple of his eye, and I hope she knows her father was loved by so many. There will also be a memorial in San Diego for Mark. ~Rest well my friend, Aloha and A Hui Hou.Terri
