Michael Engle Obituary

Michael Frederick Engle

ZANESVILLE: Michael Frederick Engle, 27, of Zanesville, ended his courageous 2 year battle with cancer on Friday, October 17, 2014 at Nationwide Children's hospital in Columbus, Ohio, surrounded by family and friends. Michael was born on April 2, during the blizzard of 1987 at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Zanesville, Ohio, the son of John and Crystal Woestendiek Engle.

Michael was a graduate of Zanesville High School in 2005. He was a member of National Honor Society, played mellophone in the marching band, was a member of the golf team, and ran the soundboard for the drama department. A graduate of the Ohio State University in 2009, Michael received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Aviation/Airport Management and a minor in business. He was a member of the Alpha Eta Rho fraternity. After graduation, Michael was the special projects manager at Pilot Air Freight in Gahanna. Michael was a member of Market Street Baptist Church in Zanesville and also attended Mifflin Presbyterian Church in Gahanna.

Michael had a kind and gentle soul. He did not know a stranger. Michael enjoyed driving his Camaro "Amanda", as well as shooting, and science fiction adventures, like Star Trek, Star Wars, and Stargate. His ultimate passion, however was building Legos which he particularly enjoyed doing with his cousins, Joseph and James Yost. Michael was truly a master builder.

Michael is survived by his parents; brother, Nicholas Scott Engle; grandparents, Jerry and Carole Engle of California, Louise Smith of Zanesville, and Jane Woestendiek of New Albany; his roommates, Brent Ferguson, Brad Hock, Spencer Kaiser, and Kyle Patrick; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Friends and family may call from 2-4 P.M. and 6-8 P.M. on Monday, October 20, 2014 at BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville, OH, and one hour prior to the service, with the service being held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at Market Street Baptist Church 140 N. 6th Street, Zanesville, Ohio with Rev. Howard Thompson and Rev. Scott Johnston officiating. A dignified cremation will take place following the service.

In lieu of flowers, Michael requested that donations may be made to Nationwide Children's Hospital Attn: Oncology department and/ or Palliative care department, 700 Children's Drive, Columbus, OH 43205, or Ronald McDonald House, 711 E Livingston Ave., Columbus, OH 43205.

I was so sorry and surprised to see this on Mike. He worked for Pughs Diamond Jewelers for awhile and we became friends. He was a good guy. I still have his email in my email addresses course he probably has it changed by now. I remember his mother from the pharmacy. They were a nice family. You all have my most deepest sympathy. May God be with you all. Janet Roberts
