Ruth Hitchcock Obituary

Ruth L. Hitchcock Nov. 11, 1920Sept. 4, 2010, age 89, Resident of Livermore, CA Born and raised in Ohio, Ruth graduated from Shaw High School in 1938 and from the Flora Stone Mather College at Western Reserve University, Ohio in 1942 with a BA in Business and a Minor in History. In 1954, Ruth completed her Master's Degree in Business Administration at Cal Berkeley. Ruth and her husband, John D. Hitchcock II, moved to Livermore, CA from Ohio in 1957, where she has made her home for 53 years. Ruth always loved to travel, visit historic sights, meet new people and make new friends. She enjoyed cruises and trips, especially with Elderhostel, to many different countries, often doing extensive research about her family's history. Ruth often wrote about her experiences and joined various local Creative Writing Groups to refine her skills and share experiences with other writers. Ruth has been an active member of the AAUW, DAR and the First Presbyterian Church of Livermore for many years. Ruth belonged to a Bridge Group and a Walking Group. At every age, Ruth always loved to swim. In the 1950's, both Ruth and her husband, John, worked as Life Guards and Water Safety Instructors. Ruth spent many happy summers with her family out at the Lab pool. Ruth recently has become quite active at both the Livermore and Pleasanton Senior Centers. Being an MBA, Ruth began, in the early 1970's, to develop her own Income Tax Preparation Business in Livermore, CA where she served her clients' tax preparation needs well for 37 years. Ruth is predeceased by her husband, John D. Hitchcock II, of Livermore, California. Ruth is also predeceased by her parents, Bennet and Florence Loomis, and by her brother, Dana B. Loomis, all formerly of Willoughby, Ohio. Ruth is survived by her daughter, Ellen Hitchcock Hanson and son-in-law, Will Hanson, of Central New York and by her son, John D. Hitchcock III and her daughter-in-law, Diane Garon Hitchcock of Manteca, CA. Ruth is also survived by her five grandchildren, Drennen Hitchcock and Buddy Hitchcock of Manteca, CA and Joy Hanson, Amy Hanson and William Hanson, of Central New York State. Ruth is also survived by her sister, Carol Madigan of Arvada, Colorado. The Memorial Service will be held on Friday, Sept. 10, 2010 at 1:00pm in the historic chapel of the First Presbyterian Church of Livermore, 2020 Fifth Street, Livermore, CA 94550.
