Patricia Tees Obituary

Patricia Ruth Tees Mar. 11, 1929 - Aug. 28, 2010 Former Resident of Oakland Patricia Ruth (Pendland) Tees died peacefully at home on August 28th, 2010 after a brief period of infirmity, at the age of 81. Pat was raised in Oakland, CA, the youngest of three sisters, in a family with strong Oklahoma roots (where she was born March 11, 1929). Pat married Jack Tees in 1947, and raised their daughters, Shelly and Penny, in a family that loved camping, the ocean, picnics, and family gatherings. Pat was a terrific seamstress, enjoyed reading, could cook a meal for a crowd on a moment's notice, and was always keen to play cards and games. She was proud of her skill as a banquet waitress, the bicycle tours she made with Jack on the west coast islands, and her community involvement. A graduate of Oakland's Castlemont High School, Pat maintained life-long friendships with many of her childhood and high school classmates, attending most of Castlemont's reunions, including the 62nd in 2008. Despite her divorce from Jack a few years after moving to Winlaw B.C. Canada, in 1978, they later resided on the same property, and visited almost daily. Pat loved being Grandma to her 10 grandchildren, who delighted in her birthday cakes, storytelling, Halloween costumes and sense of fun. Pat shared her love of fun with her many friends in the WInlaw area, and her family in California. She looked forward to having her nieces and nephews gather for her regular visits with her sisters Laura Wirt and Myra McCracken. Pat traveled and shared many months, over a period of 24 years, with her close friend Jeannine Samuels. Pat took a leadership role in the PTA when her children were in school, and later in the Passmore Senior Citizens Branch #116. She served on the planning committee for the development of the Passmore Lodge, and was a founding director of the Slocan Valley Seniors Housing Society. She will be sadly missed by family and friends.

Thanks to all of you for your comments about my mom. My sister and I honoured her last weekend with her friends and community here in Canada. It was a lovely day of memories and sharing, with her love of fun and strength of character front and centre. We are missing her every day, with love.

We are all blessed by the presence of Aunt Pat in our lives. As a child I remember so well how her wonderful sense of humor brought fun to every family gathering, and her strong opinions and intelligence energized the conversations! She will be sorely missed, but I know those who went before were waiting for her arrival in Heaven with open arms and joyous anticipation!

I shall miss Pat very much. She was always full of life, and a wonderful family member from childhood to senoir status. She never failed to be a leader in anything we planned. I an so lucky to have had her as a sister. She has left an empty space in my life. Love, Laura Wirt

Aunt Pat was a great inspiration in my life. I admired her so much and her strength, which is just like my mother's, was something I am so greatful they passed onto me, my siblings and my cousins. She will be missed but I know she is now in a better place.

Aunt Pat will be sorely missed by all of her friends and family. Our prayers are with her family: Jack, Penny and Shelly; and her sister Laura, in this, their time of sorrow. The memories of Pat's many kindnesses will be with us always.
