Donald Pilkinton Obituary

Donald Claude Pilkinton Jan. 21, 1939 - Oct. 15, 2010 Resident of Oakland Donald Claude Pilkinton passed away on Oct. 15, 2010, while enjoying the wonders and beauty of marine life in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Indonesia. Don was born in Fresno, CA, on Jan. 21, 1939, to Searcy and Nellie Pilkinton. Don attended Oakland Technical High School graduating in 1956. A lifelong lover of music, he played the trombone in the high school band. He was proud to be affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America where he became an Eagle Scout and member of the Order of the Arrow. Don served in the Air Force and, after an Honorable Discharge, became a successful Land Surveyor for the County of Alameda managing a team of Land Surveyors. He retired after 35 years and began to enjoy a very rich and diverse retirement. Don co-founded All Seasons Ski Club in Oakland, CA, serving as President, Treasurer, Youth Club Director, and Trip Leader. He also served as a Director for the National Brotherhood of Skiers (NBS). Family and friends will remember Don as a man that created his own path and inspired others. Fiercely loyal and caring, he will be missed by scores of people who are heartbroken by his passing. Don is survived by his two daughters, Koren and Kelli Pilkinton; sister, Sharon Hymes-Offord; nephew, Trenton Offord; step-daughters, Cheryl and Janet Dorsey; step-grandchildren David and Jeremy Sherin; and his longtime love, Jackie Basham. A Memorial Service will be held at Chapel of the Chimes, 4499 Piedmont Avenue, Oakland, CA, on Sat., Oct. 30, 2010, at 1:00pm. So full of positive energy, smiles, warmth and generosity. This is how Don will be remembered. Thank you for being you and bringing so much joy to so many. Our heart goes out to all his all family and especially his love, our dear friend Jackie and her daughters. We'll miss you Don.

Don will be missed by many of his classmates and one of them is me! Don and I always kept in touch. He was always a gentleman and had a sense of humor. I'm extending heartfelt understanding and sympathy to his daughters Koren and Kelli and to his longtime love Jackie and her children. Peace be with you.
