ROBERT ROACH Obituary

ROACH, Robert R.

Robert R. Roach, age 66, of Jamestown, passed away from COVID-19 on Friday, January 15, 2021, at Miami Valley Hospital. He was born October 17, 1954, in Xenia, the son of Sarah (Sheley) and Merell "Curley" Roach.

Bob is survived by his brother and sister-in-law: Douglas and Stephanie Roach of Bellbrook; nieces: Stacey (Paul) Day and Shannon (Garth) Geilenfeldt; great-nieces and nephew: Maddie, Landen and Delaney; and his cat: Cindy Lou Who; as well as many friends.

Bob was very active in the Jamestown community his entire life. He graduated from Greeneview High School and received his Bachelor's Degree from Central State University. He retired after 30 years with the Greeneview School system, serving as High School Mathematics Teacher and Athletic Director. He also coached various High School Girls sports teams. Bob was a OHSAA Referee for many High School sporting events throughout the Dayton area. He had served on the Jamestown Water Board and Zoning Board and was an honorary member of the Water Dept. He was known as the community handy man, always willing to help with local projects. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the community charities of Jamestown, specifically Jamestown Cancer Care, the Historical Society or the Food Pantry in his memory.

Graveside services will be held 1 PM Friday, January 22nd at Silvercreek Cemetery, Jamestown with Pastor Michael Helling officiating. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, social distancing and masks are required. Bob's family is grateful for thoughts and prayers extended to them remotely from those unable to attend. Online condolences may be made to

I just learned of Bob's January death in March so my apology for the delay in expresses my condolences. Bob and I worked together at Greeneview High School in Jamestown, Ohio. He was an athletic director and teacher, and I was his principal. I have worked with several athletic directors and teachers in my 47 year career in education. Bob was by far one of the most dedicated and qualified of them all. I especially enjoyed the road trips with him and Ken Esselstein to away athletic events. Some snowy winter nights were treacherous but Bob was a good driver and he knew how to get to all the locations without the use of a GPS. Ken gave him a nickname for this ability but at the moment that name escapes me. When Bob's position was reduced to 1/2 time AD and half time math teacher, I was concerned about the teacher part but as it turned out he was able to simplify the teaching process and connect with some of his more reluctant students. Bob was a good AD, a good teacher and a good person. I imagine he is organizing girls' basketball in Heaven. God bless.

Bob was a man with a good heart who loved his community and athletics! I considered Bob a good friend, knowing if I needed him I could count on him. He gave so much freely to those in need, especially his neighbors whom I know will miss him dearly.

The best memories that I have of Bob are his love of the girls he coached, his dedication to the to the athletes and facilities during his years as athletic director, and his love of Jamestown. He will surely be missed.

Bob was a good friend during my years at Greeneview. He was a man of great integrity, with an amazing work ethic. Bob was the best Athletic Director I've ever known - with him on the job, you knew that every event would go off without a hitch; the fields would always look great (thanks to the three amigos: Bob, Steve, and Dale); and the visiting teams and referees were always made to feel welcome. Bob was proud of Greeneview, and that pride showed through in how he did his job. He was a very good girls' basketball and softball coach. His athletes were always strong on the fundamentals of the game, and his teams won a good many games simply because his players were better prepared and better coached. I really enjoyed working with Bob, and I offer my heartfelt condolences to Doug, Stephanie, Stacey, Shannon, and the whole family. I'll miss him.

Bob was one of the nicest human beings that I had the privilege of working with. His service to students was unmatched. His contribution to high school athletics will be sorely missed. It was an honor to know Bob and I wish his family peace in this difficult time.
