MARTIN LIBITZKY Obituary


Martin Libitzky
Passed away on August 22, 2012 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida at age 96. Born May 26, 1916 in Lodz, Poland, he was a survivor of the Holocaust. He is survived by Eva, his wife of 66 years, his son Moses (Susan) Libitzky of Piedmont, California, his daughter Anne (Nathan) Petrowsky of Danville, California and his daughter Ellie Caruso of Del Ray Beach, Florida. He has five grandchildren, Paul Caruso, Michelle Caruso Otenberger, Michael Libitzky, Sharon Petrowsky, and Stacey Petrowsky and 2 great grandchildren, Madison and Nolan Otenburger.
The funeral service will be held at The Home of Eternity Chapel, 5000 Piedmont Avenue, Oakland, CA at 11am Friday, August 24.
Shiva will be observed at the home of Moses and Susan Libitzky at 8:30pm Saturday and 7pm Sunday.
Donations may be made in memory of Martin Libitzky to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, 100 15th St. SW, Washington DC 20024, to Lehrhaus Judaica, 2736 Bancroft Way Berkeley, CA 94704, or to the Holocaust Documentation and Education Center, 2031 Harrison St., Hollywood, FL 33020.

I didn't know Mr. Martin for very long but he always made me smile. I enjoyed playing balloon volleyball with him.
He was quite a character.
Mr. Martin, rest in peace. And don't give them too much trouble up there!

He and his beloved author Eva survived the Nazi horrors to give birth to three wonderful, loving, generous children. They and their extended family have lit up many hundreds of lives.
