I remember John from my time as court reporter for the Troy Record in the late 70s, early 80s. He was a gifted lawyer and a wise and witty friend.

John was a colorful addition to the extended Mahoney clan. I so enjoyed his detailed and vivid stories of his recent escapades and then there was his dry wit. He is remembered fondly by this last standing local girl, the rest of my family is waiting eagerly for his arrival. Until we meet again.......

To the family and friends of John J. Sweeney, Jr.
My career in the private practice of law on Second Street in Troy began in the fall of 1972. Shortly thereafter, I met John and discovered a kindred spirit with whom I could bond professionally, politically and socially. In those early years, we spent many a Friday afternoon at "Pen and Pencil," a downtown Troy watering hole owned by attorney Seymour Fox, commiserating on all aspects of life that garnered our fancy. Because of John's vast experience in worldly matters, I found him to be a most insightful and entertaining conversationalist. His joie de vivre was contagious and endeared him to everyone with whom he came in contact. Although now gone from our midst, John's light will continue to shine brightly in those he left behind to mourn his loss. Rest in peace, my dear friend.
