LOIS LEAVELL Obituary

LEAVELL, Lois Lynn

Lois Lynn Leavell 77,

of Westminster Manor, Bradenton, Florida, peacefully passed away on January 11, 2021, after a short-term illness.

Lynn was born on August 23, 1943, to St. Clair and Edna Leavell in the city of Middletown, Ohio. After Lynn graduated from Lemon Monroe High School in 1961, she earned a degree in Bachelor of Science in Education with a major in English at Bowling Green State University of Ohio. In later years, she earned a Master's degree in Library and Information Science from the University of South Florida.

After graduation, she was an educator at the Southern Ohio College in Cincinnati where she taught various Business English courses. In 1982 she moved to sunny Tampa, Florida, so she could be near her mother and best friend, Edna Leavell of Bradenton, Florida. Lynn continued sharing her love of teaching at the Independent Day School in Tampa, Florida, from 1983-1995, here she taught English 6, 7, and 8. IDS is where she met and worked alongside a very special group of women that became her precious friend group for life. She completed her teaching career as a media specialist at the Stephen Foster Elementary School in Tampa, Florida, and Frances Wakeland Elementary School in Bradenton, Florida.

Her final years were spent at the Westminster Manor, Bradenton, FL, in independent living. She volunteered her time working in the Manor Library. She loved this community and shared in many friendships that took on the role of extended family. In addition, she took part in organizations such as the Red Hat Society. Her lifetime hobbies included swimming, reading, family picnics and writing poetry. She also loved when family visited her in Florida and was blessed to have enjoyed a family trip to The Biltmore Estate, Asheville, NC, in 2019 with her sister and family.

Lynn was predeceased in death by parents St. Clair & Edna Leavell, and brother, St. Clair Leavell Jr. She is survived by Henry & Sue Ann (Sister) Hale of Dayton, Ohio, Dave & Paige (Niece) Spence of Circleville, Ohio, Chuck & Celeste (Niece) Scheibert & Camilyn, (Great-Niece) Scheibert of Dayton, Ohio.

For those closest to Lynn, we could not possibly write an obituary without mentioning 'Heathcliff' her impish, imaginary lion and confidant. I am positive that Heathcliff is alongside Lynn in Heaven engaging in jesting conversation with Lynn's family and friends.

Due to the pandemic and safety of family and friends no services will be scheduled at this time. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Bishop Animal Shelter S.P.C.A. of Manatee County, 5718 21st Ave. West, Bradenton, Florida 34209. As many of you know, she had a compassionate heart and love of kitty cats.
