I first met Herta when she was teaching a conversational German course at Senior Citizens in Hamilton. It was great fun for me as a refresher course as I had taken an elementary German course some years before. I also occasionally encountered Herta at Liberty Homes and other affairs around town. Herta was pleasant, witty, funny and generally a great person to be around. Imagine my surprise that in talking to her one day, she informed me that she was married to Bill Moore, who I had enjoyed knowing for a number of years. Rest in peace, Herta, and my condolences to the family.

Such a life, so well lived! I also taught right across the hall from Herta for many years at Hamilton High School. She possessed the most wonderful sense of humor and a terrific attitude about life and work. She was always on an inspiration to me and to many others who admired her skills. Herta was a remarkable woman, a good person, a much loved friend, and an inspiration to all who knew her. My condolences to her family . When I think of Herta, I will always remember her big smile and delightful giggles. She represents the best that any of us can hope to be in this life.

For many years, I was privileged to know Herta as a fellow faculty member at Taft High School and Hamilton High. Fortunately, my classroom was across the hall from Herta's, and we shared many memorable moments and laughs. Herta was a special soul with a tremendous gift for joy. I honor Herta's ability to educate, inspired and share her gifts with all of us.

My late mother Mary Paine Heistand met Herta when they were both freshmen at Miami in the fall of 1938. Mother keep in written contact with Herta until her own health failed in 2004. I remember vividly the stories she would tell of their time together at Miami. She would always make sure I read Herta's letters, which were full of news of her life with Bill and the three daughters she adored. Of all her college friends, I believe she was closest to Herta. My sympathies to Herta's family. Hers was certainly a life well-lived. Mark Heistand, Germantown, OH
