Northwood, NH - Daniel James Brennan, Jr., 77, of Northwood NH, passed away on Friday, January 5, 2024. He died suddenly in his home with his family by his side.

He was born on May 8, 1946 in Cambridge, MA, son of the late Daniel J. and Mary (Houlihan) Brennan. His father was the former Chief of Police in Cambridge.

Dan was educated in the Cambridge Public Schools, graduating from The Russell School and Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School. He later went on to study Physical Education at Boston University where he received his bachelor's degree and was a lifelong BU hockey fan. Dan was an advocate for World Peace and spent many of his days protesting war. Dan started his own residential carpentry business, Brennan Builders, and remained actively working until he retired.

Dan used his creative building skills to help his children and grandchildren bring to life their interests, from skateboard ramps to tree houses to bed frames to Jazz Malls. He loved to play practical jokes, watch the Celtics, share his passion for all things East Africa and harvest his vegetables for his neighbors. There was no end to his "can do attitude" and everything he made was by hand and made with love. He split his time between the woods of Northwood and the ocean of his beloved Manomet, MA. The community of Manomet was a second family to Dan, filled with generations of people from his childhood and new friends alike. Dan enjoyed sharing his strong Irish heritage whether through music, travel, food or friendly conversation about what county in Ireland someone was from. He was a proud Irishman. Dan will be sorely missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Carol (Valentine) Brennan of Northwood; sister, Mary Matthews of Belmont, MA; former wife, Diane Garthwaite of Scarborough, ME and their children, Colin Brennan of Los Angeles, CA, Darcy Brennan Poor and her husband Matthew of Portland, ME; stepdaughter, Dayna Derby and her husband Zack of Henniker, NH; and Dan's five grandchildren, Eyan, Audrey, Charlotte, Declan and Brielle.

There are no services scheduled at this time. A Celebration of his Life will be held at a later date in the spring to be announced.
