Mary Van Horn Obituary

Mary Jane (Janie) Van Horn, age 89, passed away on March 21, 2024. Janie never met a stranger and had a great sense of humor. She was a successful real estate agent and homemaker. She loved tennis, dancing and all things athletic. Janie is preceded in death by her husband Gene and her daughter Theresa. Gene and Janie were married for 46 years prior to his death. They built an amazing life together ultimately settling in Memphis. They and their daughter are now reunited in heaven.

Janie is survived by her sister Marlene, son Alan (Kacee), son David (Michelle) and son Danny (Erina). Janie was "Nana" to ten wonderful grandchildren: Nic, Kristin, Lou, Claire, Lindsey, Alison, Grant, Rachel, Madison and Cameron and eight great-grandchildren. To her grandchildren, Nana was more than a grandmother, she was pure unconditional love and encouragement. We thank God for the remarkable life of Janie Van Horn.

The visitation will be Monday, April 1 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Germantown with a funeral mass to follow at 1 p.m. and interment to follow at Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ave Maria Home or to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.

My thoughts are with each of you! Janie was a HOOT! She always made me laugh. She was so proud of her family. She had one really true love and that was dear, Gene.
My prayers for each of you.

Janie and I have known each other for 85 years. Our Grandmothers were friends. I have tons of memories of Janie. We used to play in the saw dust mill behind my house and we would laugh so hard the we would wet our pants. We had some terrific times. She loved people and they loved her. look out heaven because u are in for some wild times. Thanks for the happy memories Janie.
