Dorothy Nell "Dot" Maxwell

1928 - 2024

Dorothy "Dot" Maxwell passed away peacefully on June 19th, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and cherished memories. Dot was born on November 19th, 1928, in Martin, Tennessee, and later moved to Memphis where she built a life filled with family, faith, and community.

Dot shared over six decades of marriage with her husband Robert, who she lovingly called Max. Together, they navigated life's joys and challenges, raising four children: Linda, Ruth Ann, Shawn and Scott. One of Dot's greatest joys was spending summers at Pickwick Lake with her family, where they enjoyed camping, waterskiing, and creating lasting memories together.

A devoted member of Beverly Hills Baptist Church, Dot found joy in fellowship and community. She was deeply committed to her church family, finding solace and purpose in their shared faith. She found joy in square dancing, quilting, gardening, the timeless tunes of Willie Nelson and Frank Sinatra, and sharing life's simple pleasures, such as enjoying homemade ice cream after a meal.

Dot was a loving Nana who cherished her grandchildren, Whitney, Shelby, Zach, and Robyn, whom she adored and cared for with boundless love. Her great-grandchild, Walker, added another layer of love and wonder to her legacy.

In 2010, Dot moved to Nashville, where she became a beloved resident of Park Manor for nearly a decade. At Park Manor, she flourished as a social butterfly, engaging in activities she loved-whether it was playing canasta, knitting caps for the Baptist boys' home, crafting jewelry, or passionately cheering for her beloved Memphis Grizzlies. Dot's vibrant spirit and zest for life endeared her to all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, sisters, Mary and Jean, brother, John, and children Linda, Ruth Ann, and Scott.

Dot Maxwell is survived by her loving son, Shawn (Kathy), her four adoring grandchildren and their partners, and one great-grandchild, who continue to carry forward her legacy of love and compassion.

She touched countless lives with her gentle spirit, leaving an imprint of kindness and generosity that will endure through the memories shared by all who knew her. Her life was a testament to the power of the human spirit, and her legacy will continue to inspire and uplift us all. Dot will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
