Susan Limbaugh Obituary

Susie Limbaugh, born Susan Camille Hamilton on December 6, 1940, in Birmingham, AL, was called to her eternal rest on June 19, 2024. Susan lived a life characterized by deep faith and an unwavering love for her family. Her children enjoyed a charmed childhood with she and Jerry at the center. Her influence and counsel continued as they grew into adulthood.

Susan grew up in Birmingham as the second oldest of six children. She was the oldest daughter and the first daughter to leave the house. Jerry's new job led them to Memphis. They raised their family, and eventually returned to Birmingham. She made life-long friends in both cities.

She devoted herself to the construction of St. Francis of Assisi in Memphis, serving on the building committee and holding daily mass in her home.

Her first trip abroad was to Medjugorje, Bosnia, to visit a holy site at St. James Church. After that, she traveled extensively with either her sisters or her husband and children and grandchildren. Her travels included Ireland, Italy, China, Canada and several destinations in the US with kids and grandkids in tow. She especially enjoyed traveling to Mexico to visit dear friends in Puebla.

She was a volunteer for Honor Flight Network. She had the privilege of showing our nation's veterans the appreciation and honor they deserve by traveling with them to Washington DC. Her second flight was uniquely special because she had the honor of escorting a relative and WWII veteran, TJ Limbaugh on his trip.

For most of her adult life she was an avid and prolific quilter. She made baby quilts, wedding quilts and friendship quilts that she reverently gave away.

Susie leaves behind her beloved husband of 62 years, Jerry, who cherishes her memory alongside their four children Jay Limbaugh (Traci), Dennis Limbaugh (Elizabeth), Mary Jane Conrad (Bob), and Joanna Pennoyer (Tedd). Her legacy lives on through her grandchildren Betsy, Virginia, Ellen (Bobby), Emily (Josh), Adam, Archie, Harry, and JP, and her great-grandchildren Lucy, Conrad, Lottie, Hallie, and Emma. She is also survived by her caring sisters Helen Penfield (James) and Francis Agan (Mike), who continue to walk in the light of her example.

She is preceded in death by her parents Harry and Lucille Hamilton, and her siblings Bobby Hamilton, Linda Konig, and Sally Lynn.

Services will be held on June 25th at St. Theresa's Church, 1394 Ashville Ct., Leeds, Alabama. Receiving of friends will begin at 9:00. Mass will begin at 10:00.

In lieu of flowers, the family asked for donations toward the St. Theresa's building fund. They can be reached at 205-352-3741.

Susie and I always lived miles apart. Our mothers, Lucille and Frances, kept us knowing what was going on in each other´s family.
Susie was one of the bravest women I knew as she fought cancer and did it her way. To her family and her sisters, I am sincerely sorry for your loss.
Your cousin from afar, Sandra

Sue was a long client of mine in the salon. Grateful that I was included when she shared her life with me. During the good joyous times and the sad times of loss. Always a lady of great faith and we spoke of that often in our in our conversations. She was very courageous, when she told me she would not take treatment. Prayers for comfort and peace, knowing Sue has been promoted into Glory.
