Seth Needham Garrington, Jr., age 89, resident of Somerville, Tennessee and husband of Ruby Burton Garrington, departed this life Wednesday afternoon, June 19, 2024 at the National HealthCare Center in Somerville.
Seth was born September 5, 1934 in Poplar Branch, North Carolina, the son of the late Seth Needham Garrington and Martha Love "Reta" Spry Garrington. He graduated from Edmunds High School at Sumter, South Carolina in 1952 and continued his education at Trevecca Nazarene College in Nashville to earn his Bachelor's Degree and Peabody Vanderbilt University College to earn his Master's Degree.
Mr. Garrington was employed as a corrections administrator for many years. He was a parole officer in Jackson, Tennessee, a warden at the Turney Center in Only, Tennessee and Administrator of Correctional Institutions at Joelton, Tennessee and Somerville, Tennessee at Wilder Youth Developmental Center. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Somerville.
Mr. Garrington is survived by his wife, Ruby Burton Garrington; two daughters, Evelyn Garrington of La Vergne, TN and Candace "Candy" Kelley (David) of Somerville, TN; his son, Russell Alan "Rusty" Garrington (Angie) of Collierville, TN; his grandchildren, Misty Danner, Ashley Wagner (Mark), Matthew Seth Kelley (Linsey), Christin Kelley Bryson (Zach), Kelsea Garrington McGehee (Nik) and Burton Seth Garrington; and his great-grandchildren, Miles Marie Bryson, Jolie Wray Bryson, Avacyn Ruby McGehee, Ellie Grace McGehee, Jace McGehee, Baker Seth Kelley, August Andy Kelley, Bryce Danner, Brylee Danner, Madilynne Wagner, Mark Wagner III and Max Wagner.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Timothy Seth "Tim" Garrington; twelve sisters, Wilma Garrington Morel, Marjory Jeanette Garrington, Marjorie Lee Garrington, Mildred Garrington Harris, Nettie Alma Garrington, Pattie Virginia Garrington, Claudia Alma Garrington McCarthy, Naomi Jean Garrington Frank, Reta Faye Garrington Apostolis, Grace Garrington O'Neal, Clara "Peggy" Garrington Swann and Maree Garrington Gordan; and his brother, Ronald Pernell Garrington.
A visitation for Mr. Garrington will be from 1:30 to 3 P.M. Sunday, June 23, 2024 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland. Funeral Services will be at 3 P.M. Sunday, June 23, 2024 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Pastor Jim Whitley, minister of Liberty Baptist Church, officiating. He will be assisted by Bro. Stan Smith, pastor of First Baptist Church of Somerville and personal remarks will be given by Steve Holt.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Mark Wagner, Zach Bryson, Michael Starnes, Mark Starnes, Billy Burton and Zachary McKell. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Grassel, Lance Burton, David O'Neal, Elmer Whitten and The Barnabas Class of First Baptist Church of Somerville.The family requests that memorials be directed to First Baptist Church of Somerville – Missions, 12685 S. Main Street, Somerville, TN 38068.
