Janet Blue Obituary

Janet Blue, 70 of Memphis, died June 20, 2024, leaving a void her family and friends will not be able to fill.

Janet leaves behind a world that is undoubtedly better for having known her. She embodied the values of strength, compassion, and selflessness, and her spirit continues to inspire all fortunate enough to be a part of her journey.

Janet was welcomed into the world on August 27, 1953, in Memphis, Tennessee by her parents Dorothy Jean Poindexter Blue and Walter Blue Sr. She was raised in their care and love with all of her siblings- brother, Walter Blue, Jr. and sisters, Melanie Blue Washington (Ronald) and Sharon Blue Driver. Their experiences together were filled with shared laughter, playful teasing, and unspoken understandings that only siblings can have. Janet and her siblings formed a tight-knit bond from their earliest days, learning from and supporting each other through life's ups and downs.

Janet attended Booker T. Washington High School, where she enjoyed playing clarinet with the BTW Marching Warriors before graduating in 1970. She received a full scholarship to attend Alma College. Over the years, Janet worked towards completing her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Kaplan University while simultaneously taking care of family and friends. Janet also continued her joy of music by marching with the Spirit of '76 Drum Corp in Racine, Wisconsin.

Janet found a career path that combined her love of computers and education by forging a path that combined both areas. She worked for years as an instructor at both 3Re.com and Kansas Vo-Tech before moving to the Tennessee College of Applied of Technology. Janet's illustrious career at the Tennessee College of Applied Technology led to her becoming the registrar at the institution before retiring in 2013.

Janet Blue was not just a mother to her daughter Jessica Hardy; she was a pillar of strength, a source of unwavering support, and an embodiment of unconditional love. From the moment Jessica was born, Janet's life took on a new, profound purpose. She often said that Jessica's birth changed her life for the better, and she demonstrated that sentiment each day through her actions and the deep bond she nurtured with her daughter.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents Dorothy Jean Poindexter Blue and Walter Blue, Sr.; her brother, Walter Blue, Jr., and is survived by her daughter; Jessica Hardy and sisters, Melanie Blue Washington and Sharon Blue Driver, who will never forget the love she brought to their lives.
