Carolyn Cobb Obituary

Carolyn W. Cobb, age 88 passed away on Friday, June 21, 2024.

Carolyn was born on September 1, 1935 at Hales Point in Haywood County, Tennessee. She was the daughter of the late Willie "Opal" and Essie Rhea Woodward. She graduated from Humes High School in 1953 and worked for the Shelby County Government retiring as the payroll supervisor in 1986.

Mrs. Cobb became a member of Gateway Baptist Church in 1983 then worked for the Gateway School for a number of years. She loved all of her "school" kids like they were her own and was lovingly known as "Aunt Carolyn". She loved to fish, garden, ballroom dance, and help all of her "kids" during ball games which she ran the concession stand.

Along with her parents Mrs. Cobb was also preceded in death by her sister Betty Jones.

Aunt Carolyn's memory lives on through her niece Carolyn Jo (Jason) Foster of Oxford, MS; nephew Barry Richenback of Oxford, MS; great-nephews Andrew (Amanda) French, Wesley (Ashley) Martin and Hyler Foster, great-great nieces and nephews Dixie, Alee, Christopher, Adalyn, Etta Jane, Kyle and Robert.

Family and friends will gather on Wednesday, June 26 from 12:30 p.m. until funeral services begin at 2:00 p.m. all at Gateway Baptist Church, 4070 Macon Road, Memphis, Tennessee 38122. Burial with procession will follow at Memphis Memory Gardens Cemetery.

I remember Carolyn when she worked at Shelby County Government. She was a hard worker and always had time to give assistance when needed.
