Martha Doyle Obituary
Martha Longmire Doyle, born on November 20, 1941 in Millington, TN, passed away on January 20, 2025 in her home following almost a decade of a brave battle with cancer. She was the loving wife to Don for 56 years prior to his death in 2018. They met and became sweethearts at Memphis State University as freshmen and began a life together filled with love, laughter and devotion to one another and to the three children they shared; Matt, Leanne and Chad. They began their married life in Pensacola, FL where Martha was a school teacher and Don was a Navy officer. Their next adventure took them to Louisville, KY for Don to begin seminary. They settled in Homerville, GA where they made many cherrished friends through the community and church they led. Many years later, they were off to California for new careers and family experiences on the West Coast. Eventually, they returned to their southern roots in Tennessee where they stayed for the remainder of their lives.
Martha found the most happiness in being a wife, mother and grandmother above all the other roles in her life. She loved any time with family, sharing memories and laughs and her favorite place to do that was the beach on the gulf coast each summer. She also made a huge impact on special friends, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and many healthcare providers that helped her along the way. She dedicated herself to ensuring her children and grandchildren developed close relationships with a strong foundation of love, respect and unity. Her greatest desire was that her family carry on her legacy of kindness, connection and togetherness - a wish her family will continue to honor.
Preceding her in death were her parents; Aaron and Mary Pouncey Longmire, her stepfather; Douglas Fowler, and her husband; Donnis Lee Doyle. She will be greatly missed by her sister; Kay Longmire Reed (Roy), her children; Matt Doyle (Laura), Leanne Duncan (Kelly), Chad Doyle (Joey), nine grandchildren; Brady Doyle (Lindsey), Ellie Doyle, Austin Duncan, Bryce Duncan, Colby Duncan, Tyler Duncan, Lila Duncan, Reagan Doyle, Tucker Doyle and two great-grandchildren; Ella Doyle and Molly Doyle.
Visistation will be 3:00pm - 5:00pm, Sunday, January 26, 2025 at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN. Funeral Services will be 10:00am, Monday, January 27, 2025 also at Memphis Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Memphis Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations would be welcome by the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance.
