Jack Day Obituary

Jack D Day Jr., aged 85, passed away peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior on January 21, 2025, in Memphis, TN. Born on August 13, 1939, Jack's outgoing and personable nature meant he never met a stranger (human or furry) enriching the lives of all who knew him. Jack was the only child of Jack and Christine Day, who raised him in a home full of love and happiness in Nashville, Tennessee. He graduated from Central High School in Nashville where he maintained many lifelong friends. Jack attended Middle Tennessee State University, and his college years were notably marked by his time playing football at the University of Alabama under Coach Bear Bryant before a knee injury led him to transfer. His love for sports remained, evidenced by over four decades of supporting University of Memphis men's basketball with his wife, Martha. He served honorably in the Air Force as a pilot, a role that showcased his dedication and skill. After his military service, he embarked on a successful career at Becton Dickinson, where he worked for over 36 years. His charm and wit made him a natural salesman, beloved by colleagues and clients alike. Jack's commitment to his community was profound. He was a member and served as a deacon at Whitehaven Baptist Church, where he was a guiding light to many. He loved his church and his neighbors and made many lifelong friendships throughout his time there. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Alec Cole for his dedicated service and friendship to Martha and Jack. Jack was always busy, and his hobbies included boating and riding 4-wheelers at the family cabin on Horseshoe Lake. You could also find Jack swinging his golf clubs on a beautiful spring day and in the winter seasons duck hunting with great friends in Clarksdale, MS. Jack's passion for Alabama football never waned, and his humor and zest for life made every gathering memorable. As a true southern gentleman, he loved a great meal and he was captivating at recounting stories and experiences throughout his life. He was of full of happiness and positivity. He adored his family and always had time to help a friend in need. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Martha Day after 57 years of marriage and only daughter Mary Day (Crystal O'Guin). He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Christine Day. A service to celebrate Jack's life will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home in Memphis, TN. Jack's legacy of joy, devotion, and community service will continue to inspire all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Whitehaven Baptist Church.
