Mollie Baker Obituary

Ms. Mollie Faye Baker was born to Mary Ollie Leopard & Roy Sides in Ashland, MS on October 16, 1935. She was one of ten children, so she started her life taking care of others. She dropped out of school in the very early years to help the family out by picking cotton in the fields, but her main jobs were cooking and caring for the younger siblings. Mollie learned how to cook and sew, so well that she would use those talents to bring in extra money most of the time. Her delectable dishes have fed children, grandchildren, church members and ministers far and wide. She married Leslie Baker Sr. in 1953 and together they had 4 children. Leslie was killed tragically in 1984, and she married Fred Barnes, with whom she had 8 stepchildren. They later divorced and she chose to spend the rest of her days dedicated to the service of the Kingdom of God. Ms. Baker was a dedicated member of Mt. Calvary Pentecostal Church, in Byhalia, MS, for many years. During her time there, she taught Sunday School, led the song service, ministered, travailed in prayers, taught, participated in outreach efforts, cooked for the ministers that would come through, and even kept the church cleaned on a regular basis until she became unable to do so due to health issues. Sis. Baker, as she was known to her church family, was an ordained minister of the Gospel, which she proudly displayed everywhere she went. She was filled with such a great love of God, that she herself even had trouble putting into words when she testified. She has even been quoted as saying, "I am a HOG over that SWEET HOLY GHOST", asking everyone she would meet if they had it and telling them how they can get it! Sis. Mollie was truly that Proverbs 31 woman of God, laying her hands to the spindle, reaching forth her hands to the poor and the needy, looking well to the ways of her household and never eating the bread of idleness. Her mouth was full of wisdom and kindness, and all her children call her blessed! Everyone that has ever met Ms. Mollie instantly fell in love with her love of life, her loving spirit, and her JOY OF THE LORD! She ran into our Savior's loving arms on Friday, February 28, 2025. She was a true, humble servant of God, and we know the angels are surely rejoicing! Mollie Faye Baker leaves to cherish her legacy, her children, Kenneth & Leonard Baker, and Carolyn (Junior) Burnett, of Red Banks, MS; Four stepchildren, Betty Jean (Travis) Leopard, of Potts Camp, MS, Teresa Turner, Melissa (George) Kimbrough, & Gary Barnes, of Byhalia, MS; one sister, Mary Tole, of Covington, TN., Eight Grandchildren, Michelle (Odis) St. John, Tammy Baker, Phillip (Denise) Burnett, Tabitha (Sonny) Echols, and Michael Burnett, all of Byhalia, MS, Savannah Doles, Sarah (Jed) Covington, and Stacey Nield, all of Covington, TN; Fourteen Step Grandchildren; Seven Great-Grandchildren; Nineteen Step Great Grandchildren; and Four Great, Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Leslie Baker Sr. & Fred Barnes; son Leslie Baker Jr.; stepchildren, Herman, Leroy, & Billy Joe Barnes, and Hazel Hilton; eight brothers and sister, and her mother and father.
