Rev. Elbert Merle Gibson

Rev. Elbert Merle Gibson, age 93, went to his Heavenly Home on Feb. 28, 2025. Born and raised in Northern Oklahoma, Merle at a very early age felt the call to ministry. Merle sang on the radio with his cousins, Martha and Mary, as the "3 M's" trio. He later earned a Bachelor Degree in Theology at Southwestern Assembly of God Bible College in Waxahatchie, Texas. He immediately began pastoring and raising a family. Rev. Gibson pastored over 10 A/G Churches and ministered at many more. He pioneered and physically built and pastored 1st Assembly of God in Bloomfield, New Mexico, 1958-1963. After pastoring several other churches, he pioneered 1st Assembly of God in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Rev. Gibson, his wife, Alice, and family sang and played numerous instruments to enhance his ministry. Pastor Gibson had a kind, but firm, way of organizing ministries within the churches he pastored. In recent years, Rev. Gibson attended Horn Lake 1st Assembly of God, where he ministered, sang, and played the guitar as his health permitted. While pastoring, Merle acquired many skills in construction and woodworking and was a machinist by trade to support his family. Merle loved hunting and fishing with his family! His family was a top priority. Merle Gibson was preceeded in death by his mother, Isabelle Gibson, father, Elbert "Hoot" Gibson, brother, Leroy Gibson, wife, Alice Gibson, and daughter, Cindy Grant. Merle is survived by brothers, Archie Gibson (Gloria) and Duane Gibson (Cathy). He is also survived by son, Danny Gibson (Linda), daughters, Darlene (Coleman) and Gaynell (Ronnie), 7 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
