William Williams Obituary

William Horace Williams, 93, passed away on March 2, 2025, at Baptist Hospital. Larger than life and loved by all who knew him, Horace never met a stranger. His warmth, humor, and generosity left a lasting impact on everyone he encountered.

He was born on January 16, 1932, in Kosciusko, Mississippi, to Herman Dwight Williams and Lola Mae Chennault Williams. Horace graduated from Kosciusko High School, where he played on the 1949 state championship football team. His talent on the field earned him a scholarship to play for the Ole Miss Rebels. After completing his bachelor's degree, he joined the United States Air Force, and upon fulfilling his military service, he returned to Ole Miss to earn his master's degree.

Horace dedicated his life to education, serving as a teacher, principal, and coach. His many years coaching high school football at various schools were a testament to his passion for the sport and his ability to inspire young athletes. His legacy as a coach is remembered not just in wins and losses but in the character and lives he helped shape.

In his spare time, he enjoyed Ole Miss athletics and spending time with his beloved family and friends. He was a devoted member of Collierville United Methodist Church.

Horace was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Ouida Evans, and his brother Bryan Williams.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ruth Sloan Williams; daughter Carole Ann Hughes (Tim); sons Bill Williams (Marita) and Bob Williams; grandchildren Rebekah Williams, Jessica Hughes, Betsy Soto (Joe), Sarah Howden (Richard), and Brooke Williams; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 6, beginning at 10:30 a.m. at Collierville Funeral Home, 3863 Bailey Station Road in Collierville. Funeral services will begin at 12 noon, followed by committal services at 3:00 p.m. at Northridge Woodhaven Cemetery, 6755 US-51, Millington, Tennessee.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association or a charity of your choice.

I am a friend of Bob Williams, the son of Horace. I used to visit their home in Germantown quite often and Mr. Williams was always so polite and pleasant. He always seemed to be in a good mood and I enjoyed my many conversations with he and Ruth. The world was a much better place with him in it
