To the Family of Bishop McDonnell,
I had the honor of seeing his gift of ministry in action many years ago when he visited my mother who was very ill. He came to our home with a mutual dear friend & exuded warmth, compassion, & a delightful sense of humor. It truly made her day! I will be forever grateful for the comfort he brought to my mother & our family on that day.
With heartfelt sympathy,
Lisa Pope

To the Family of Bishop McDonnell-
I learned with sadness of Bishop's passing last week. He ordained me to the Permanent Diaconate in May 2013 and had an important impact on my spiritual life.
Bishop was always approachable and kind - very pastoral - but also direct in his communication style. He
had a wonderful sense of humor, sharp intellect and an affinity for good red wine - the latter endearing
him to an Italian-American like me.
While I cannot attend his funeral liturgy in person, I will be there in spirit, and will continue to pray for his peaceful repose and the consolation of his loved ones.
Pax Christi,
Deacon Daniel Romanello, DMG

Dear Bishop McDonnell.
I was privileged to have been your neighbor for more than 11 years. Your humor was second to none.
I most especially remember when you first arrived from New York to a City that lives and breathes Boston sports.
As a joke you hung a New York Yankee banner that Bishop Maguire, a die heart Boston fan, would have to pass under going in and out of their kitchen.
I remember the photo of you coming out of a Yankee dugout, fully robed, wearing your miter with the NY Yankee logo superimposed on it.
There were sad times for you when you had to close churches. You knew while buildings are important the true Church is the people. I don't know who felt worse, the communicant or you.
I could go on, but know you will always have a place in my heart.
Your friend Judy

Bishop McDonnell:
Your wisdom, strength and council will be missed. Always quick with Irish wit, and always available to listen to someone in need. You will remain in our prayers. "Till we meet again. The Casella Family.
