Still not forgotten....

Charlie Gili

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Esposito Family know that we recently sent Care Packages to American troops in the war zones. Each box carried a dedication sheet that includes the name, service information and a photo of your loved one. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.
Sincerely,

Dear Esposito Family,

I realize there is NOTHING that could be said to you that could ever ease the loss that your family has endured... I wouldn't even begin to try.

I simply felt the need to convey my deepest, heart felt condolences, to those that lived nearest me...

I SIMPLY HAD TO reach out to those that lived closest to me and let their families know that the sacrifice that their SONS & DAUGHTERS have made ARE NOT, and WILL NOT be forgotten, and were not made in vain!

We gladly add your beloved son to our prayers, along with ALL of our other fallen Sons & Daughters!

God Bless YOU and YOUR FAMILY, and "MAY THE PEACE OF THE LORD BE WITH YOU!"

I don't pretend to know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

May god bless him and I know the lord is smiling on him. I knew Phil for a number of years. The both of us crossed paths on 9/11 and served with the 101 CAV. A man of many stengths and few weaknesses. I actually remember running into him in Kuwait when I was leaving for R&R and he was coming into country. You couldn't tear the smile off of his face no matter how hard you tried! I would fight by his side for eternity if need be. God bless!

I did not know Capt. Esposito, but my brother in law Lt. Louis Allen died with Phil on that dreadful day. From what I've been told Lou admired Phil & was honored to be serving with him. Knowing that Lou was with a friend makes it a little easier knowing that he was in good company at the time of his death. Although it doesn't make it any easier to accept that they are gone. It is almost 3 months that they have gone & not a day goes by that my family doesn't think Lou & Phil. I wish to extend my deepest sympathy to Phil's family. My heart goes out to all of you.

I was a soldier in CPT Esposito's unit for a short time. I did not know him long, but he was very instrumental in making sure a made it back to the US from Iraq in time to say goodbye to my mother before she passed away. He took the time to deliver the Red Cross messages of her sickness to me in person, no matter how late it was. He also made it a point to tell me that he could not begin to understand what I was going through, and the importance of family. For that I will always be greatful. I would like to offer my condolences to the family on their loss. God Bless.

I spent 4 years with Phil at Albertus Magnus High School in New York. We were in every class together from Freshman year on. I hung with the "popular" crowd, while Phil was more interested in his grades and making something productive out of himself. Senior year, he was the only member of my AP Biology class who was not afraid to be my lab partner. I wasn't known to be the most serious student, but that didn't matter to Phil. Throwing caution to the wind he took the chance of failing out of the advanced biology class with me, and took me on as his lab partner. Needless to say, we passed with flying colors and he taught me something about the frivolous nature of your typical high school hierarchy. Phil was my friend, and I learned more about not judging a book by it's cover in my experiences with him at Albertus than I ever could have from actually reading those books. God bless you Phil. There are more people than you know who will mourn your passing.

Phil was my company XO when I was in command during 1999. We stayed in touch ever since and he was a fantastic friend. I don't think I ever heard him say "no" the entire time I knew him. I want to thank the Oregonian for putting this memory book together for all our sake.

I can not even tell you the sorrow I feel for your loss. I met Phil back at Battery Park during 9-11 when I was the Commander of C Company 101 CAV. Phil was always a gentleman and a professional, a mentor and and friend. His professionalism and his love of his country and family were something we should all try and emulate. I feel that I am a better man for having met Phil and a better Officer for having had the honor of servfing with him. He is sorely missed and will always be our inspiration. I worked with Phil at SSB and respected him to the highest degree possible. At one of the worst moments in my life Phil was there with words of encouragement and hope for the future. I miss his selfless nature and dedication to doing what he knew was right. I feel that we shared a bond that those who have served know; a bond that can make strangers into friends. Phil's memory will live with me forever. It was my privilege and honor to know a man with such strength of character. My prayers are with his family and friends.

My youngest son, Sgt. Matthew Wintenburg, D/1/101 CAV, currently serving in Iraq knew both Capt. Esposito and Lt. Allen from that unit in Newburgh.
