We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

I attended grade school with Cpl Gettings many years ago, and though we were not close, I remember him still as a good student and well-liked classmate. From 2004 to 2007 I was stationed at Camp LeJeune as a dental officer. I deployed to Iraq at the same time as Cpl Gettings. I wish I had known that he was there at the same time. It would have been good to have had someone to reminisce with about our hometown and youth. I would have brought up the time we were huddled in the school gym watching the video of his family's trip to Italy. I can't fathom the enormous loss that his friends and family must still feel. Though I only knew him as a child, I will always remember him, and I will always honor the sacrifice he made for our country.

The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

God Bless you Cpl. Albert P. Gettings. I came across this site in searching for more military motorcycle rides to go on. Your sacrifice is most appreciated. My Uncle Junie, who also was a Marine, was killed in WWII. I never met him, but my parents instilled in me the importance of never forgetting him. I took his picture to the WWII Memorial this year and took a picture. I am so proud of him. That same weekend my daughter Lacy told me that she was signing up for the Marines. I am so proud of her. Her "fellow guy" Marine friends mothers are so afraid and cannot believe how calm I am. I just know that no one wants to bury a soldier, and I won't dwell on the what ifs. I do know what fine young men and woman serve in these armed forces and for that alone I am excited for her. I hope no one minds that I posted in your guest book. I ride with my husband in many events every year in honor of our fallen soldiers, our POW/MIA's and our Vets. I never met you, but I know freedom, and through that, I know you. Thank you Cpl. Gettings. God Bless you and your entire family. I am so truly sorry for your loss.

On this Memorial Day weekend we would like to remember and honor all those who unselfishly gave their lives so that we may enjoy the freedoms of our country. We also honor our military who continue to defend our country's freedoms everyday.
Three years ago on May 29, 2005, we celebrated our son's wedding. It was a beautiful day filled with sunshine, family, friends, and Albert's Marine brothers. Little did we know that seven months later on January 5, 2006, we would have Marines standing at our door telling us that our son was killed in Iraq. We are still in disbelief and our sorrow for the loss we feel is embedded deep in our hearts. We are grateful that we had Albert for 27 years, he was an inspiration to all of us. I know he is giving us the strength to go on each day and his ultimate sacrifice will never be forgotten. We want to thank everyone who has come into our lives especially our Marine sons. Without their love and support, we would not be able to go each day. What a tribute to our son.

I don't pretend to know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

Bert,
I just wanted to let you know that I'll always be thinking about you and hold you close to my heart. It's been so long and I couldn't even begin to express how your absence from this life has made me feel. As I think about life and all the struggles we face, I think of you. Your bravery to do what was right, no matter the consequences. It seems as though you've touched many lives other than mine, you had a way about you. You were always a leader, one who worked hard towards a goal and never looked back. You made tough decisions seem easy, that was your way of showing all of us that you can do anything, as long as you give it one hundred percent. I find myself not being able to let go of the sadness. I'm tremendously in debt for all that you've given me in this life. I'll never forget you double duce!

We want to thank everyone who has sent us a note of sympathy for our son, Albert. Recently, Albert was honored at the YMCA "Salute to Courage" Award dinner (Sep. 14th). Over 300 attended including 10 of our Marine "sons" who were in Albert's squad or fought with him in Afghanistan and Iraq. Also, his Marine escort attended, Gunny Sgt. Ryan Miller. It was bittersweet yet we were honored at the outpour of support and love our family received. We are also honored by all the entries our son has received in this guest book. Albert would have been so impressed. He never thought he was doing anything special--- just his job of defending our freedom and making it safe for us to sleep at night. God Bless all of you.

To the Gettings family and Stephanie,
My condolences to each and every one of you. Albert was a very good man. I got the pleasure to complete boot camp at Parris Island Plt 3065 w/ him in the summer of '02. Then we worked together in Supply on Camp Geiger (Camp Lejeune) until he left. Albert was always motivated and showed love for what he did. He was a very honorable Marine that got respected wherever he went. He served honorably in support of OIF/OEF, god rest his soul, and has now moved to bigger and better things. I hope all is well and the wounds will heal quickly. Thank you for producing and mentoring such a fine man.

To our guests:
We are so fortunate to have the love and comfort of so many people. Our son, Albert, touched so many lives, and he would be overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and honor he is receiving. Yes, we are going through a tragic time in our lives. Yet,by the grace of God, we have a strong family unit and the support of many friends. Also, our Marine family has been very supportive and we thank God we have them in our lives. I ask that we continue to pray for the safety of our military because they are the backbone of our country. Albert had such a commitment to the Corps and everything they stand for. More importantly,he wanted to be an active part of defending our freedom, and freely chose to be in the infantry. Albert left us with many happy memories, but the most important memory is his dedication to his Marine brothers and fighting for the cause.
God Bless all of you.

Memorial Day weekend 2005, will forever shine in my minds eye as the loveliest wedding I have attended. The wedding mass was beautiful and moving; the reception hall was a fairy land of lights and lace; tables piled high with cookies; marine uniforms, wedding garb, Sunday best, young and old danced to ethnic favorites and more. It is near impossible to connect this image with the loss of Albert. I could not attend the funeral, but took a desert walk that day with the spirit of Albert. I approached a mountain peak and absolutely could not believe that there was a man-made rock formation of a cross. I believe I was led to this place. I sat quietly and felt Albert say, "tell them it is okay, tell them it is all right here." Julie and David, I hope to take photos of this sacred place, Albert's Place, and send them to you and the family. Since it is very difficult to retrace ones steps in the desert, I cannot promise. I can promise that the beauty of the wedding, as well as the beauty and peace of Albert's Place in the desert, will remain in my mind's eye. Peace be with you

Psalm 23
1
The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
2
He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,
3
He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
5
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
6
Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
This is a verse that I have found to be comforting to me during my husbands death. Remember that when it seems that no one else is round, God is still there with you! And he will be your rock!
My daughter,McKaLyne, and I send our heartfelt sympathy for your loss! God Bless this warrior, God Bless those whom serve freedom's cause! They are our true HERO's!!!!

To Albert's family and friends-
My family and I are praying for you and your family during this difficult time. We send our deepest empathy as we lost our Marine on 11/30/05 in Fallujah. We are comforted to know that our Marines are serving their country with such honor and bravery. We are so proud of our Marines and all of our other service men and women for all that they have done and continue to do to keep us safe and to give us the freedom we have that so many take for granted.
They are true Heroes and need to always be remembered for their selflessness and sacrifice to better our world. We will forever be united in the loss of our heros. We are so sorry for your loss and hope our words will ease some of the pain, and maybe fill some of your emptiness.

Cpl. Albert P. Gettings - HERO. Having just lost our son to this war I know firsthand there are no words right now - just know you are not alone in your grief. Too many young, courageous men and women loosing their lives. I pray for peace to end this war so the remaining men and women can return home safely to their awaiting families. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this loss. One day, I too, hope to be able to smile at a memory rather than just have all the tears that flow so easily now.
God Bless this young man.
