You don't know me. I didn't know Michael personally. But I think of him often, and people often ask me about him.
11 years ago I bought a memorial bracelet from hero bracelets.org, I asked for a random name since I didn't know anyone who had served and died. I got PFC Michael K Oremus, Highland NY 10/2/06.
It was my intention to wear it every day until the war was over, and I have, save for scrubbing into a sterile surgery. Honestly I never thought I would be wearing it this long, needless to say its pretty warn. I decided to order a new one today, with the same name on it.
I just wanted to let you know that a person you have never met really does appreciate the sacrifice made to protect our freedom, and I never hesitate to tell people about our hero.

This past weekend was the annual soccer tournament in your name and again my husband played in it...very proud of him but this isn't why I am writing , I am writing because you would be so proud of your whole family and how they are honoring you...Mikey you are so loved by so many people and we all miss you so very much...I aspire to be like your mom she, like you, she is one of my heroes. I only hope that one day I can be half the mother she is. I know that you are always watching over all of us but I felt it extra on Sunday...miss you Mikey <3

Michael.... Not a day goes by that you don't cross my mind. I remember hearing your hopes and dreams. I remember the good times and bad times together. You are very special... my prayer that day before you were taken from us was for forgiveness not for us but for those responsible for taking you away. I'll always remember you.

Hey Mikey today like everyday I remember your smile and I smile. I still see you ad that adorable little boy at all of Eric and Sandy' s soccer games playing with Jimmy, and than later on playing soccer with Jimmy while my 2 older sons would watch you guys play...great circle of soccer life. And seeing you at Brennie's your smile was always the first thing I loved seeing when I went there and than you would laugh just to get my boys started. I miss you and think of you everyday Mikey. You weren't just a Highlander or a solider....you are a true American Hero and we all appreciate all that you and your fellow soldiers have done for our country. Forever in our hearts and never ever will be forgotten. Keep smiling Michael just keep smiling....

I went to the same school a PFC Oremus but did not go to school with him. He was a few grades below me. I never knew him either but when someone from our small town gives their life for their country it hurts. PFC Oremus gone but not forgotten. A True American Hero.

Hey Oremus Clan this year has been a really tough one for the Ventriglia Clan of coarse not in August when Jimmy married the most wonderful woman in the world Alison and that day was so joyous and we knew that Michael was there in spirit. But the rest of the year has just been hell. And when I found myself down and hopelss all I would do is look at my wristband and smile cause I kn ow Michael is looking down at me and smiling his GREAT BIG SMILE and I knew that everything would be ok. We miss you so much Mike and I wish I can be just half the mom that your mom is she is an inspiration along with your brothers and sisters in law and newphews. I was so happy to here when Eric's son was born there was no other name but Michael Kevin Oremus, that little boy has HUGE shoes to fill...but I think he'll do it...He's and Oremus. Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Michael, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

I was CPL Oremus’ (aka Mikey; Tyrone Biggens) Drill Sergeant In Bravo Company, 795th MP Co, Ft.Leonard Wood, MO. (Hell Hounds) As the Drill Sergeant, I had the responsibility to train young soldiers into warrior police and prepare them for life inside our Army. In our current nations state, I was also responsible for preparing them to go to war. During my two years as a Drill Sergeant, I must have trained close t0 1,000 soldiers in Bravo company with about 300 of those being in my platoon.
PVT Mike Oremus was one of the first soldiers that I trained. He was in my first cycle, and he was one of those characters that you just never forget. It wasn’t far into training that I had him pegged as “the class clown”. He became famous for his antics, like his Tyrone Biggens impersonations.
PVT Oremus was also a sharp soldier, he was quick to volunteer when something needed done and quicker to help out one of his buddies when they needed it. Most of the time, the soldiers didn’t realize that I was paying attention, because as a Drill Sergeant you must create a certain facade; but I was always watching.
I have the utmost respect for Mike and every other soldier that I trained, because every one of them chose to enlist in the Army in a time when our Nation was at war. Each one of them answered a call that only about one percent of our nations population chooses to answer. I tried to train them as if I were training my own children, and give them the tools that they would need to be successful.
I would like to thank Mikes loved one for allowing him to serve his country. It is always so bitter sweet when serving is met with death though. It was an honor to have known and trained him. He will remain a soldier forever in my thoughts.
Drill Sergeant Bryan Williams. (Hell Hounds)

He doesn't see the tears that fall
Lonely and silently on the pillow
The endless nights tossing and turning
Waking up in search of him
He didn't hear the prayers to God
Spoken every night for him
Pleading to keep him safe and sound
To give us strength and courage
He doesn't know about the thoughts
So many each day, dedicated to him
Wishing he could sense them
And the love that grows each day
We know he feels the kisses
The ones being sent each night
Hoping they might reach him
until we hold him tight.
"I read this and thought it was beautiful and so true. I know there are no words to say at a time like this but I know the fear you had when he was in Iraq. I pray that God be with you & your family and you can find some sort of peace in knowing that he is with God eventhough you'd rather him be with you." GOD BLESS YOU AND KEEP YOU SAFE IN HIS ARMS!

Dear Oremus Family,
I realize there is NOTHING that could be said to you that could ever ease the loss that your family has endured... I wouldn't even begin to try.
I simply felt the need to convey my deepest, heart felt condolences, to those that lived nearest me...
I SIMPLY HAD TO reach out to those that lived closest to me and let their families know that the sacrifice that their SONS & DAUGHTERS have made ARE NOT, and WILL NOT be forgotten, and were not made in vain!
We gladly add your beloved son to our prayers, along with ALL of our other fallen Sons & Daughters!

I don't pretend to know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

I remember the sorrow felt by so many as we helped unload the trucks with hanging heads and heavy hearts. Our feelings in no comparisson to yours. It was hard for me yet I had the chance to do something special when his squad leader ased me to do the memorial video. I was honered I went through so many pictures in all he always had a smile on his face. Its funny how his memory is still etched in our hearts just today we were laughing and sharing memories of him more and more so as we prepare to return home. “Soldier”
To Honor the Service of Our Fallen Soldiers
Soldiers write history, we pay the price
Many miles distant, you live the life
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We hope and pray that all will find peace
In God, in the flag, in memories of valor
Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever
Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away
Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go
We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light
Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray
Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know
Lived life with purpose…it was our time to go

I had the pleasure to work with Oremus. I selected him to be part of my SWAT team. Compare to the experienced members he was my weakest link in marksmanship and physical ability but he had the biggest heart, and that is what he brought to the team. No matter how physical the training was he never gave up or quit. He set and extraordinary example, at the end becoming the strongest one of us. I miss Oremus, but the memories left behind of us training to become the best in the MP Corp will live among us forever.
God Bless....

I am one of Michael's many aunts. It gives me comfort to read all of these wonderful tributes to my nephew. They help to reinforce to me what I already knew; that Michael was an exceptional human being who loved his family, his friends and his community. He took great pride in his service to his country and we saw him mature into a confident, proud man during his short time in the service. Our hearts go out to his fellow soldiers who served with him and we pray for their safety everyday. Thank you for your kind words about him; they really do help us through this very difficult time. Thank you to everyone who has sent their condolences and memories.
I am so thankful that I saw Michael when he was on leave in May. I only wish that I had hugged him a bit longer at that time. I tried not to think that may be the last time I would see him as our small community of Highland had already lost two of our young men, Eugene Williams and Doron Chan in Iraq. How was I to know? I will miss his smile which lit up the room.My prayers are with all of the men and women who are serving in Iraq. We have already lost too many.

I think of Oremus everyday. There's not a day that goes by that we don't miss him. To his family we want you to know that we are with you as he's our brother that we worked and played with for the past year. I knew Mike in Korea, and am honored to know such a great person, the day of the sniper attack will always stick in my mind and heart as I watched a brother fall and take his last breath. The video that was aired on the news, I didn't have to see as it plays in my head everyday. Mike saved so many lives that day when we stopped in order to protect the ones here in Baghdad that are innocent. There were hundreds of people in the area, they live because what we did that day- he did not die in vain. He lives on in my heart and memories. Rest in Peace- You've done your duty to the best of your ability as you always have.

I feel very fortunate to have met such an awesome, genuine person. A while back I had the chance to spend some priceless time with Mike. Over that short period of time my life was touched. Words can’t begin to express how wonderful of a person or how big of a heart Mike had. I remember how proud he was when he spoke of his father and how much he wanted to be like him. I know that they are together once again watching over all that have been affected by this sudden loss and may need strength at such a difficult time. Hearing all of the great things that family and friends had to say about Mike during the funeral reminds me of how just one smile from his face could light up an entire room. He is definitely a hero and I am so proud of him. Although he is not with us in a physical sense, he will always be here in spirit. The memories with Mike will never fade away. My thoughts and prayers are of Michael and with the Oremus family.

To Maddy, Dan, Eric, Richie and the entire extended Oremus family...
Words cannot express what I'm feeling in my heart after attending Michael's funeral today. What a wonderful young man Michael was and what a loss to all of us, especially his family. But Michael was lucky as well, to have such a close, loving and caring family that obviously adored him.
I remember when Michael was born and my daughter born shortly after, Maddy and I trying to pre arrange their marriage. Watching him grow up through the years, I always secretly wished that had come true. He was such an incredible young man. And obviously a strong and brave man as well.
His dad would have been so very proud of him - as we all are.
The service for Michael was very sad, but at the same time very beautiful.....honoring a true American hero. Michael, you will be terribly missed but will always be in our hearts.....

To the family of PFC Michael Oremus, my husband and I have a daughter that is over in Iraq in the 57th MP Co. Our thougts and prayers go out to you at this time in life that no parent is ever suppose to go through; we as parents are not suppose to bury a child especially for a child that is so young and has so much more in life to experience. God bless you Michael as now you will look over the entire 57th MP CO. to make sure that they all come home safe.

I was not fortunate enough to know Michael, but my daughter Breanna knew him and felt she must attend the services held for him. My son has just recently completed his six year term with the USAF, and I therefore feel even that much more grief for Michael's family. Michael made the most ultimate sacrifice for his country as so many of our finest young men and women have done. He will be yet another one of our best remembered for his bravery and courage that has been lost in this war. I am truly sorry that I never knew Michael. My prayers and most deepest condolences are with you all. Thank you, Michael.

To mikey's family; I offer my sincere condolences as you go through this rough time. Mikey and I became friends a few years back. We got to know each other pretty well and I really loved the person that he was. An honest, sweet and true guy with one of the greatest smiles ever. We had become interested in dating each other, but never did. We had lost contact for several months but gained it again and he then informed me that he had joined the army. I couldn't believe it. But what I cannot believe is what has happened to him. As a friend i loved him and also as an amazing person. In these sad times, we must not dwell on the hurt and sadness, but celebrate the wonderful person he was and what a fulfilling life he had; and also what joy he brought to his friends an family. He will surely be missed, but is an angel watching over us now<3

Although I did not know Mike personally. I am told my step-son played soccer with him. I am connected to Mike in 2 ways; we share the same name Mike and second I was an MP with the Army and also an SP with the Air Force. I always feel the loss of a fellow soldier when one is killed or injured in action. I have been a member of the honor guard for both the Army and the Air Force and I am emotionally connected and eternally gratefull for those soldiers who have given the ultimate sacrifice for what they believe in. My heartfelt condolences in your loss. The country has lost yet another great soldier.

To the family of PFC Oremus-
I am so sorry for your loss. I was in the 188th with Mike, in the same platoon. We both went to the 57th, hoping to go live it up in Hawaii, and we were room mates from then until they deployed. I was also his team leader, and I can honestly say that he was the best soldier anyone could ever hope to have. We had some good times, and I am grateful that I was lucky enough to have a friend like him. I'm positive he is in a better place now. God bless him and you. RIP, good buddy...

Michael was my son's classmate and on the same soccer team. I remember him as being a fireball on the soccer field and of course who could ever forget his smile. My son Nick Meyer is currently serving in Iraq and is deeply sadden by the news of Michael's death. He asked me to send his condolences. He will always be remembered in all our prayers.

My name is Sandra Johnson, and my husband is with the 57th Mp Co. in Iraq also. I met Micheal just before they deployed. I will quote my husband, "Micheal was the biggest little man he knew." He was a great soldier and will be missed. Our guys are still there, my husband is still there doing what Micheal was doing everyday. We have children and pray everyday that he makes it home to us. So when we lose one of our own, it hurts deeply. I pray for Micheals Mom and family to have the strength to go on. Just know that your in our prayers.

To the Oremus's, I am truly sorry for your loss. Mike was an employee and later became my friend. The one word that keep surfacing when I think of Mike is "Guts" He had more guts than any person I know. To try to better his life by joining the Army was very inspiring to me and I will also be grateful to had an opportunity to know him. God Bless
