Charlotte, just be strong today and the days that follow. I know you rather have him here with you, but he's definitely in a better place. He took care of his mom and country, so we know he's happy about that. Remember what he said...all the promises about taking care of you. In the end he did just that. Smile about that and remember. Remember you loved him and protected him to your best ability till he became man enough to make his own decisions. Decision to have a family. Decision to join the Army. Decision to take care of his mom just in case something were to happen to him. We can't decide how we leave this earth, but we can choose what we leave behind. He left some great things. He will be remembered. He won't have to hurt, cry, or fear anymore. I love you, Charlotte. I'm here for you always, no matter what. Remember, Rodney is with you always.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Rodney, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

Dear Lil Rodney, You may not remember me but I remember you. The last time I saw you, you were very young, so was I but I'm older than you. Respectful, smiling and sincere are the memories I have of you:ABSOLUTELY ANGELIC. You were a man before your time, you carried burdens uncomprehendable to us.
I once read that God causes everything to work together. He knew his people in advance, He chose them to become like his Son, so that his son would be his Firstborn, (just like you are.You had a purpose. You fulfilled it.)You died so that we may live.God has given you the right standing with him. God has given you glory. But having chosen you, he has called you to come to Him. As much as you are wanted to stay, it must be realized that nothing can keep you away from the love the The Lord has for you. See you next lifetime sitting in the right standing of God.

For Rodney's parents,
I'm sorry ,I have no words of wisdom or help for your pain. Only that.. I know you raised Rodney to become a great man,and in that you should be proud. I know if he were able to tell you one more last thing it would be... I love you carry on in life keep me alive in the memories ,share them with my children. You raised me to be a strong powerful man to succeed in all I do, I've done that it's time for me now to say goodbye. You are strong powerful parents you did your job. I became like you, brave loving, to believe in myself and carry on. I'm always around, you gave me life. I'm apart of you I'll never fade from your hearts. So, be strong and brave.
For Ashley,
Girl you are such a strong woman ,an I think that is why Rodney was drawn toward you to pick as a partner. His love will never leave you Ash, it will grow an reach into the kids. He left you with the most wonderful gifts in life, apart of him for you to keep going. In your children's eyes you'll see Rodney shine through, and smile from the love he gave you, it will wrap around you an heal your wounds. Lift you up when days are long make you stronger and brave as each day passes.
For Rodney,
I haven't known you long enough. I thank you for all you did in your short time here with us, I'm glad I got to know a part of you then not any of you. I thank you for the children you brought into Ashley's life and into our hearts. You will be forever remembered for the peace loving man you where raised to be. Your children will know the love you shined on all, an the father you wanted to be will be clear to them as the memories come forward, and they'll show the respect, confidence and courage you had in your self, you will be reflecting in them molding them from your place in heaven. You may not be in our sight but you'll always be in our hearts and as we pass on your memory to your children, you will continue to live through them and your love will spread an grow forever more and reach out an touch us all.
Our troops are young and brave.
They went to fight knowing they might never make it back to loved ones, yet they hold their head high an say,
Don't worry about me, don't weep for what might be.
This is something I have to do , my choice or by them picking me.
I'll be brave an do the best I can .
If I happen perish...
Remember me by the love I showed you, the hugs I gave you.
Please my loves don't weep to long for me.
I'm not far away I'm only a prayer above, say my name an I'll hear your love in your night prayers.
I'm not gone from your heart just your sight.
I'm here, you'll feel me near in the night holding you tight.
I'm only gone from your sight.

Spc Rodney J Johnson. RIP

My heart goes out to the family, because I know what its like to be young and searching for an identity, rather then sell drugs or do something meaningless Rodney decided to do what most people will not do if they were paid a million dollars. Rodney joined the military in hopes of securing a better future for himself and those he loved, a selfish person he is not. Only God knows why the good die young sometimes. Have faith and remember God is in control, there will come a day when there is no longer any weeping, no more tears, no more death.

If roses grow in Heaven,
Lord please pick a bunch for me,
Place them in my Husband’s arms
And tell her they are from me.
Tell him I love him and miss him,
And when he turns to smile,
Place your arm around his neck.
And hold him for awhile.
Because remembering him is easy,
I do it every day.
But there's an ache in my heart,
that will never go away.

My deepest and heart felt condolences to the family of a fallen soldier that has give the ultimate gift, his life, for this great country we live in. Thank you for the grand sacrifice that you have made for all of us. As the mother of a soldier who went to Iraq to serve our country, I know the anxiety and the fear that one lives with everyday. While it is a comfort that my son made it back to continue his life here, the sadness for those that did not is just as great as if they were my own sons. As said at the end of the Chronicles of Narnia - "For us this is the end of the story but for him, this is only the beginning." He is beginning a story where there is no war, no pain, just wonderful days proudly standing next to our Lord. Remember to lean on Jesus. He will wrap you in his arms and carry you until you are ready to stand on your own. Our Lord be with you.

Spc. Rodney Johnson & Family:
Know in your heart that you are a true hero and will never be forgotten. All gave some, some gave all. Rest in peace. You will be missed by everyone’s life you have touched.
To the family, as the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life’s routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family, friends, and all Americans for the sacrifice of one of your family members for our freedom. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. May you find comfort in the loving embrace of our Heavenly Father.

I taught Rodney in the teen Sunday school class at church for three years. Rodney was a great listener and always ready to answer a question. Rodney was not afraid to profess his faith in Jesus as his Savior. He always treated me with respect and always greeted me with a big smile in and out of class. It is sad for us who remain but we do not grieve as those who are without hope. I know we will see that big smile again in Glory. Thank you for your service in the war against terror, we can never repay you!

I have just learned of the death of Specialist Rodney J. Johnson. As the State Chaplain of the Georgia Sons Of The American Revolution, I speak for our President, Charlie A. Newcomer, III and more than 1,400 SAR members around the State of Georgia in humbly expressing the condolences of a grateful Society. Wrapped in the integrity of service to our nation and the inestimable values of duty, honor and country, your American hero stood on a wall of freedom for us all. His life and his love of country epitomized every attribute of patriotism the Sons Of The American Revolution hold dear. And, as Americans, we could never repay the debt we owe him ..!! Nor the debt we owe you… his family!!!

To the family of Spc Johnson. As a mother of a recent casualty, I have a feeling I know what you're going through. The disbelief, the raw emotions that come from nowhere, the overwhelming sense of loss, the numbness. He is a true Hero. He went when and where others would not. There is nothing I can say that will ease your pain. But I hope that you are able to draw comfort from your friends and family in the weeks and months to come. In about a month his personal things from Iraq will come and the feelings will be raw again. For us there was so much comfort in the pictures our son took of his military life. I hope your son was as happy in his military life. It has made our grief easier to bear. May God give you comfort and peace. Our family will keep you in our prayers for peace.

Rodney is a true American Hero, giving his young life for God and Country..He stood tall and brave.. Rodney answered the "call for duty" to protect our way of life for all Americans..Rodney did what he had to do, a true protector, a Hero to all, and I for one will never forget Rodney's sacrifice. Rodney is with the Lord now, even now Rodney is looking over us, still protecting us, protecting his loving family..I would like to express my deepest condolences to Rodney's family..God Bless Rodney and the entire Johnson family..Rest in Peace My Brother...

To the parents of Rodney, I know how hard it is to loose your child to war. Your heart breaks and you have so many questions that are unanswered. I don't have those answers but as another Gold Star Mother I do have emotional support to offer you when the time comes and you want to reach out for someone who has gone through this same loss. Sometimes it is just better to be able to talk, cry or vent to another and I want you to know that I'm here for you. God has blessed me with the strength to do this and I'm thankful for that. May God give you and your family the comfort you deserve and His healing power to restore your broken heart.
