I remember Joe, especially, for his keen sense of humor. He was our platoon radioman when I became platoon sergeant, in my last month with K/3/1. We would listen to his stories during idle times at the platoon headquarters. One story I remember was about his grandfather, whom, he claimed, always bought clothing that was slightly too large in case he gained weight. Perhaps it was in Joe's telling, but I still remember the and smile when I recall it.

Growing up you were always there
each and every day showing me that you cared. Each moment we spent together
will be special to me forever. The day your soul drifted high
my heart knew, and all I could do was cry.You watched over me while you were here
And I know that you will watch over me from up there. Grandpa, to me you meant the world.
Now with you I can live in the world.
I wanted to say I LOVE YOU SO MUCH and i will miss you. I wont ever forget the stories you would tell me about you watching me when i was little girl.. nd i wont ever forget the times we spent at your favorite coffee shop and talked.... You will always be in my heart... i love you grandpa always and forever.....

Hey there Joe,
I will FOREVER cherish the many talks we shared at the rail. *~*~Enjoy all that FRESH Peach Pie up there~*~* (I still have that sail boat you gave me at my front door step)!
All the wisdom you shared with the boys, will be lasting memories forever. They tell everyone about your "Mexican Freeze Wrap" whenever they are preparing fresh fish.
Our prayers are with your famly,

Semper Fidelis Joe. It has been many years since we served together in Kilo 3/1 from Okinawa to Vietnam. Few can understand the bond that we shared during that period. It has been my honor to call you a brother, Marine.

Met Joe 1965 before he married Ray and was still a Marine. He, Ray and Mom and Kids all lived in the same apartments in Encinitas where I lived with my ex-husband Mark Riley. Joe was always a nice guy who loved his family and friends and of course his boat in the Harbor. I am a friend from way back. Donna (Riley) McGinty, Oceanside.
