I was deeply saddened to hear the news of David's passing. I met David when I was about 10 years old, while we were teammates on the Rowland Heights Little League pirates. I played baseball with him and against him from that point forward until the end of high school. He was always a hell of a hitter. On behalf of the Llovera family, our thoughts and prayers go out to the Echeveste family.

I first met David in my first year in baseball. We played for the Brewers at Rowland Heights Little League, it was in the farm division. Eddie was so young he will not remember me. You were a good man then, and from reading your bio and messages a good soldier has departed. Although we haven't seen each other or spoken since high school, my heart mourns with your family. A good soldier has departed us, and heaven is a better place for that. May GOD bless your family and children, and may we all recognize the power of HIS LOVE. Sieper FI Mr. Echeveste, and Hello Deena, Eddie and Mrs. Echeveste. Kind Regards Chris Avila

Echeveste Family,

I was a coworker of David's...(I'm Yolanda Negrete's daughter)...it was a great loss for everyone...it's very shocking when you loose a loved one so suddenly. He will be missed. I do sincerely pray for David and your family. May God Bless you ALL!

To Eddie and Manny and all the Echeveste family, I send my thoughts and prayers. I know you are hurting. I knew David as a competitor (a tough one!) in fastpitch when I lived in San Diego 1998-2002. I had the pleasure of playing only one tournament with Santana and David. I remember that in one game (about 100 degrees!) he kept getting extra base hits and having to run hard. He would come in hardly able to breathe and his wife and mother would administer cool liquids and their admiration. He just kept on hustling! What an effort! That was David!

Eddie (another great competitor!) went to Minn. with my 23 and under team in 1999. Eddie, I'm thinking of you!

As talented a ballplayer as David was, it is the person he was that we will miss most. He was the one to fire up his teammates, but also the first to share a laugh. I liked playing alongside him more than against him, as I never had much luck getting him out. As he grew older, I saw less of him at the ballgames, but for all the right reasons -- his wife and children. There was no mistaking how he felt about them. But he stayed interested in the game, and would drop in with a good word now and then, most recently last May when the Rounders won a nationals berth in Stockton. As much as he battled for Santana and other teams he played for, he enjoyed seeing his friends on other teams do well too. That was David being David. Something instilled in all the Echevestes, I think. It was his quick wit that coined the headline for the story we posted on that weekend...."Sleepless in Stockton". When you were a friend of his, you remained so, regardless of the uniform you wore. My thoughts and prayers go out to Margaret, and the children, Manny, Diane, Eddie, Dominic and all of the Echeveste family. We are all better for having known David.

whats up meat???

Hows baseball?!?!

this is how conversation started between my uncle david and i. He always had time to talk to me about baseball and the way your supposed to play the game. He was the kind of guy you loved because of his personality not because he buys you stuff. I played baseball with him at the age of 8 and i still play to this very day (14 yrs. now), because he made the game so exciting for me. Now he is in baseball heaven and i hope he doesnt get in too many fights with them yankee fans.

sincerely,

It has been many years since I have seen David, but I am heartsick over the news of his passing. The many hours & days spent with the Echeveste family at the ballfield, and at their home, contine to be some of my most cherished memories. To Manny, Diane & the entire family, my thoughts & prayers are with you. God Bless you, David. You will not be forgotten.

I can't begin to tell you how completely shocked and saddened I am to hear of David's passing on to a better place. David was a feared and respected competitor that was extremely easy to get to know. I had played against David for many years in several different classifications, but finally had a chance to invite him, Eddie, and Bryan V. to Salem, Oregon for the 2002 NAFA World Series. Unfortunately, he was the only one that couldn't make the trip and if I remember right, I believe it was health related. We suffered as a team not having him, but even more for the comraderie that he easily shares of himself with every teammate and opponent. I know of the Echeveste Family through fastpitch, however it is there strength in family that will get them through this difficult time. My thoughts and prayers go out to his lovely wife and children and to Big Manny, Eddie and the rest of the extended Echeveste family. May the good lord be with you at this difficult time. My apologies for not being there today, as I just learned of his passing on Thursday afternoon. I would have liked to been there to pay my respect for him.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of the Echeveste family. Dave was a great guy in his younger years and I'm sure he was in his later years. My brother Ronnie Matkins, was the reason I knew Dave and Dave always treated me like his own sister. I'm sorry that we never kept in touch and I'm very sorry to hear of his death.

Our hearts are heavy with sorrow at the passing of this dear young man. David and our children grew up together and we will all miss him. It's so hard to believe that the Lord called him so soon. His heart was full of joy and love and he made everyone around him smile. His life may have been short but he will be remembered and loved by so many whose lives he touched. God bless Margaret and D.J. and Lexi, Manny and Diane, Eddie, Erin, Janea, Little Ray, Dominic and Lucy and the boys. We love you and thank you for being the wonderful human beings you are and thankful that we had the opportunity to know and love your son. Alex, Sonia, Gina, Dominic, Garret and Rosie Bazurto.

Extrememly shocking to hear of David's passing. As a fastpitch softball teammate for 2 years on Santana Concrete, I knew David as a great competitor, who put his family before playing softball. My condolences to the Echeviste family in getting through these sad times.

We were very sad to hear the passing of David. We only knew him for a few months and could not help but like him. Whenever he spoke about his wife and kids his face would light up. We were looking forward to a fun year of baseball, but we will now think of you at every game. Margaret, know that our thoughts and prayers are with you. Also know that god will watch over you and your family. You will never be forgotten David.

David was a devoted husband and father and we will miss him deeply. His big smile, fun personality, and generous hospitality made knowing David a great pleasure to us. His devoted love and attention to his wife and children was a tremendous comfort to Martha and I. David was about as perfect of a son-in-law as any parents could hope for their daughter. We are denied his company now, but we will keep David alive in our hearts and memories and cherish the thought that we have an angel in heaven looking over us.
