Sarah Lynch Obituary

LYNCH, Sarah Izard Smith, of Wilmington, Del., died peacefully on Saturday, November 8, 2008. Born in Richmond, Va. in 1922, she was the second of three daughters of Marsden C. and Sarah I. Smith. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Richmond and attended Converse College in Spartanburg, S.C. She later moved to Wilmington, Del., where she worked as a secretary for the DuPont Company. While in Wilmington, she met and married William F. Lynch II in 1955. An avid knitter and needle pointer, she was co-owner of the Yarn Patch Inc. in Greenville, Del. for many years. Her other interests included gardening, volunteering in the community and playing golf and bridge. She was a longtime member of the Junior League of Wilmington, the Delaware Chapter of the National Cathedral Association, the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the State of Delaware, the Descendants of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence, Westminster Presbyterian Church and the Wilmington Country Club. Mrs. Lynch is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Mark Poulsen of Lorton, Va.; her beloved grandchildren, Sarah Emery and Cooper William Poulsen; and a sister, Anne M. Clow of New Canaan, Conn. She was predeceased by her husband, and her sister, Elizabeth Seibert. Memorial contributions may be made to Limen House for Women, 624 N.
