Nancy Thalhimer Obituary

Published by Bliley's Funeral Home Central Chapel from Dec. 5 to Dec. 6, 2008.
THALHIMER, Nancy P., 75, of Richmond, Va., passed away peacefully at home December 4, 2008, surrounded by her family following a courageous battle with brain cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Alice Passloff; and her brother, Richard Passloff of Richmond. Nancy is survived by her husband of 55 years, Morton G. Thalhimer Jr.; a son, Morton G. Thalhimer III and his wife, Patti, of Richmond; a daughter, Leigh T. Linnell and her husband, Bob, of Portland, Ore.; and a son, Richard L. Thalhimer and his wife, Amy, of Richmond. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Barbara Passloff of White Plains, N.Y.; and a niece, Lynn Drucker of Laurel, Md. Additional survivors include six grandchildren, Sarah and David Thalhimer of Richmond, Evan and Alexandra Thalhimer of Richmond, Austin and Daniel Linnell of Portland, Ore.; and a cousin, Lee Wolff and his wife, Pamela, of Cleveland, Ohio. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Nancy was an avid outdoor person, enjoying tennis and golf over the greater portion of her life. She further enjoyed skiing for 50 years with her three children, their spouses and grandchildren. Nancy was involved with many organizations and cared greatly about the well being of our community, particularly for our health care institutions. She served tirelessly for 20 years on two separate boards of Sheltering Arms Hospital. She worked diligently and participated in the change from a conventional hospital to a top-rated rehabilitation facility. Nancy was loved and admired not only by her family, but also by a large circle of Richmond friends. She had numerous friendships throughout the country acquired through her 17 years at the Harbour Ridge Club in Stuart, Fla. She will be missed, but her spirit and joyful outlook lives on through her children, grandchildren and an abundance of friends. The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 6, 2008, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Bliley's - Central, 3801 Augusta Ave., Richmond. Interment will be private. A memorial service will be held at Congregation Beth Ahabah, 1111 W. Franklin St., on Sunday, December 7, 2008, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cullather Brain Tumor Quality of Life Center, 5875 Bremo Rd., Suite 108, Richmond, Va. 23226, or Sheltering Arms Hospital, 206 Twinridge Ln., Richmond, Va. 23235, or a charity of your choice.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Thalhimer family. I did not know Mrs. Thalhimer well but had contact with the family and her sons through high school sports. I wish the family well and Mrs. Thalhimer and the family will remain in my thoughts and prayers. Dick Kemper

I first met Nancy in 1982 when I began working for the CEO at Sheltering Arms Hospital. As a board member, Nancy was tireless in her work with patients and staff. Over the next 17 years, we developed a wonderful relationship and enjoyed sharing stories about our families and friends. Sheltering Arms fostered a family atmosphere among its board members and staff, and Nancy was like a mother to many of us. When I began working at the Red Cross in 1999, I kept up with Nancy through Mort and Richard. She will be greatly missed. My prayers are with you all during this time. May your memories include many happy times together.
