Martha Haislip Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch from Jan. 17 to Jan. 18, 2009.
HAISLIP, Martha E., 93, left this world as we know it on January 15, 2009, to have life everlasting with our Lord. Martha was born September 15, 1915 in Gurley, Ala., daughter of the late Emmett and Eula Eustace. She spent most of her adult life as a resident of Chesterfield County, Va., and retired from Miller & Rhoads with over 20 years of service, primarily representing the Elizabeth Arden cosmetic line. She loved her work and many lasting friendships that she made there. She was a longtime member of Sherbourne United Methodist Church in Richmond, Va. She became a resident of Bay Lake Retirement and Assisted Living in Virginia Beach, Va., in 2006. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, James Curtis Haislip; sisters, Cleo Styles and Virginia Finley. She is survived by her son, Joe, and daughter-in-law, Connie Haislip of Virginia Beach, Va.; brother, Russell Eustace of Richmond, Va.; brother, Ralph and his spouse, Linda Eustace, of Hollytree, Ala.; grandson, Mark Haislip of Virginia Beach. Va.; granddaughter, Christine and her spouse, Kenneth Rudd, of Apex, N.C.; grandson, Scott and his spouse, Laura Burgess, of Virginia Beach, Va.; granddaughter, Robin and her spouse, Greg Bowman, of Virginia Beach, Va.; great-grandchildren, Logan Curtis Haislip, Madeline, Jacob and Chloe Rudd, Brian and Lindsey Burgess, Peyton and Olivia Bowman; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, all of whom she adored. The family would like to give a very special thanks to the Bay Lake Retirement and Assisted Living Home's staff, management and her friends for all the kindness, caring and support she had as a resident there. Visitation will be in Scottsboro Funeral Home, 1502 County Park Rd., Scottsboro, Ala. 35769, from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, January, 21, 2009 at the Methodist Church in Hollytree, Ala., and she will be buried next to her husband at the Clay Cemetery family plot in Paint Rock Valley, Ala., after services. She went the extra step to always be friendly and fair, and everyone with whom she had contact knew she lived by that rule of life.

Joe, please accept Pam's and my deepest sympathy on the loss of your mother. She loved you dearly and was a role model in her thoughtful treatment of others with kindness and respect. I am so glad I had the privilege to know Martha and to be included among her many friends and admirers. We are thinking of you and send our love.

Joe and family,
I have wonderful memories of your mother, my "Church Family Member" of Sherbourne United Methodist Church in Chesterfield, County, VA.

Martha, was one of the most spiritual and sweetest ladies I ever met. Her encouragement, smile and inward beauty inspired me tremendously over the many years I knew her. She will be missed.

God bless you and your family during this difficult time.

Joe & Family, It is hard for us to put into words how special your mother was to us and our families. We can not remember a single event in our childhood and growing up that Martha was not a part of. We remember saturday shopping trips downtown always included a visit at Miller & Rhoads and how disapointed we were when Martha was off. She always made us feel special and that she was as glad to see us as we were her.
We know that to say that she will be missed is an understatement.
With Deepest Sympathy,
Jeanne & Dal Grubbs & Barbara & Alan Koenig

We were sad to hear the news of Mrs. Haislip's passing. She and Mr. Haislip were like another set of grandparents to our children (Ty, Michael & Kristina) while living next to them in Chesterfield. We have missed them ever since they moved away. We will keep you and family in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
