Judith "Judy" Slough

Judith Slough Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch on Feb. 27, 2009.
SLOUGH, Judith "Judy", of Norfolk, left this life on February 17, 2009 after a brief illness. Judy was incredibly courageous and we all love her for it. Judy was predeceased by her parents, Evelyn Slough and Robert Slough Jr.; as well as her brother, Robert "Bobby" Slough III. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Joanne Slough; nephews, David Slough and Richard "Rick" Slough and his wife, Devon, and children, Madison and McKenna. She is also survived by her niece, Kim Matheny and her husband, Mike, and children, Nicole, Ashley and Cory. Judy's life began in Richmond, but her heart was in Norfolk, where she spent the last 30 years of her life. When Michel and Paul Lynch convinced Judy to leave teaching in Richmond and move to Norfolk to help them in their new coffee business, she did it willingly and never looked back. Judy Slough was the most giving and loving woman we have ever known. Michel and Paul and their children, Ben and Andy, became Judy's family. Ben and Andy's children, Ben Jr., Mia and Drew, had her heart. Also included in our family are Nina and Larry Hartman and their children, Clay, Lauren and Olivia. They all adored their Auntie Judy. It was in the coffee business that Judy met her very dearest friend and soulmate, Deniese Fulgham. Judy is survived by Deniese and her daughter, Michelle Shultz and her husband, Kenny, and their children, Caroline, Tommy, Lizzy and Tyler; as well as a second daughter, Lisa Fulgham and her partner, Jeremy Hunsucker, and their daughter, Kyleigh. Lisa is expecting Judy's second grandchild and she was thrilled when she found out. Also included in our family are Patricia Moore and her children, Jimmy and Michael. After 20 years in the coffee business, Judy returned to her first life as a teacher. While at Jamestown High School in Williamsburg, Judy was again working with the young people she had left many years before. We only hope they loved her as much as we, her family, loved her. Judy Slough was one-of-a-kind and there is a void that will never be filled. We love you Judy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Norfolk SPCA, 916 Ballentine Blvd., Norfolk, Va. 23504. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2009, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel.

Judy was my high school friend and neighbor. I knew her family well. She and I shared many fun experiences. After high school I lost track of her and I am so glad to hear she had a happy life. I am so sorry to hear of her passing. She will be remembered.
