Merry Christmas 08 kiddo....

...when they asked about the big tornados down our way, I said they missed us, then I asked about the signal graces and it's always hard to tell if we missed them or they missed us on purpose or mere figment? The roofmen were there to fix the leak; had to run.
Then the weather reporter on TV stood in front of a bent and twisted road sign in Virginia Beach, green and white letters, pointing halfway to heaven, illuminated in that eerie light of coming and the past storms---it said 'Johnathan's Way'---I don't know if it's cool or coincidence but it is a grace either way.

As I read the Washington Post on November 13,2007, a story about a little boy with 'special needs-cerebral palsy' and his brother and family, on page F3 of the Health section drew my attention.
His documentary named "Including Samuel" was to premiere at the Avalon Theatre here in D.C. The part that really spoke to me was the paragraph about his vulnerability to illness and how he caught pneumonia and doctors had to induce a coma to stabilize him...
This 'little message' spoke to me of the concept of the 'signal grace'...something like the idea presented in the movie "It's a Wonderful Life"...when you hear the bell ring...wings! Further meanderings remind me of the idea that 'a little child shall lead us'. In this case, I can see that beautiful thing appears to have happened before our very eyes, with the help of wonderful, marvelous caregivers at every step of the way. 'God Bless us, one and (why did I just type adn instead of and?) all'. (from Tiny Tim in C. Dickens "A Christmas Carol". I remember that glint in your eyes John Bailey, only now it seems so much brighter? A happy kids life, no doubt.

Dear John & Terry,
I was so sad to hear about your great loss. It has been a long time since I last saw John but I have thought about him quite a bit over the years. I enjoyed the countless hours that I spent reading books with John and taking him for walks. He had such a wonderful spirit.

I remember as a child thinking how amazing my little cousin was. I didn't really understand everything he had to go thru, but I did know that although his life was much more difficult than mine, he managed to complain less than me and smile more. I know that at 7 years old he had a great impact on my life, thru the past 10 years I can imagine he did the same to thousands of others.
Our prayers are with you aunt Terrye and Uncle John.

John & Terrye & family, My heart and prayers go out to all of you. Johnny was one of the most amazing guys - surrounded by a wonderful and loving family. I, like many others, feel so very blessed to have known him. I'll always remember him - he was so full of joy and fun and mischief- you just couldn't be around John and not be crazy about him. Happy trails my friend - we will all miss you. Linda

Dear Terrye and John,
17 years ago our families were brought together at Children's Hospital Neo-Natal Intensive Care Nursery. We shared many weeks of ups and downs as Claire, Patrick and Johnny struggled to come home.
We are so deeply saddened to learn of Johnny's passing. He taught more people about the beauty of life in his short 17 years than many others do in a lifetime. May you find comfort knowing that many are thinking of you at this very sad time.

Dear Calabro Family,
I am so very sorry to hear of John passing and want you to know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers. I learned to love John like he was my own son when I took care of him so many times, I always loved the time I spent with him at your home and the home of his grandparents in Grand Island. He taught me the true gift of love and to truly appreciate the small things in life. I so enjoyed the walks around Grand Island near Frank and Beryl's house that we took when I spent time with him and the way he truly enjoyed the beauty of nature. He was so aware of everything that happened around him. I loved his bright smile when he was happy and his little scowl when he was not. May God be with you all and remember the wonderful things that he brought into each and every one of our lives. You have all my love and prayers. He is in the loving arms of the Lord now and will be waiting for everyone when they arrive there to be with him.
