SCOTT CRANE Obituary

Scott B. Crane, age 23, died on June 11, 2011. Beloved son of Teena and Michael Crane; loving brother of Lindsay Crane; cherished grandson of Charlotte "Nor "and Norman "Paka" Boyer, the late Elaine and the late Benjamin Crane; adored nephew of Alison and Warren Meister, Judy and Gary Gutwillig; dear cousin of Matthew, Adam, Corey and Bradley. An honor student at Glenbrook North High School and College of Lake County and Oakton Community College. He was co-founder of the charity, In Chef's Hands-Food Therapy for the Soul, creating a Midwest Hospice CareCenter Cookbook, and was the 2011-2012 Illinois and National winner of the prestigious MDA Robert Ross Personal Achievement Award. He was known as "Mr. Determinator" for his courageous fight with Centronuclear Myopathy (MDA), his volunteer activities at the Rehab Institute of Chicago and his work at the Corner Bakery in Northbrook Court. He accomplished every goal he set, sharing his friendship, humor and giving heart to make everyone around him as special as he was. His positive spirit, contagious personality, and his optimistic outlook will be the legacy he is leaving to all who were privileged to know him. He showed by example that disability doesn't prevent one from living a rewarding life rich in accomplishments. Service Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Temple Jeremiah, 937 Happ Road, Northfield. Interment Sunset Memorial Lawns. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his memory to In Chef's Hands- Food Therapy for the Soul at www.inchefshands.org., would be appreciated. Even though I never met Scott, he and I were very dear friends. Like many others, I met him through facebook. I have a grandson with MD and I love to cook, so he and I had lots in common. He was so precious to me and I will miss him very much. He was an amazing young man! I will keep you all continually in my prayers.

I will always cherish the memories I have of Scott. I loved how he was so eager to hear about what I ate on my travels. It was fun going to Sushi Station and dining on Ethiopian cuisine together. I will miss chatting with him, joking aound, and all of his inpirational quotes. He was wise beyond his years and I felt close to him. He'll always hold a special place in my heart!

Dear Crane Family--

I met Scott at RIC and we hit it off immediately because we both loved food. But also because his spirit was so good. He helped many, many young patients on the pediatric unit. He helped me! He was a great person.

I lost my job at RIC last year and scrambled to find a new one this year. It was a busy year for me and I lost touch with Scott. I lost touch with many folks.

I'm sorry that Scottie is not here. But I rejoice that he is not suffering anymore. No one deserves to suffer as Scott did. He was so brave and positive. The articles that were written about him, like the one which appeared in the Tribune, only scratch at the surface of Scott. There was something profoundly deep about him even while his spirit seemed so light and happy.

Scott Crane was a rare individual, who transcended so much even at his tender age of 23. Although his faith doesn't acknowledge them, mine does and he would be called a SAINT! He gave out blessings through his good deeds and I know, those deeds returned to him ten-fold, and sustained him. He was always interested in helping others. .

I'm just sorry I didn't visit him at hospice. Gosh, that birthday meal he made sounded lovely. So I ask your forgiveness and also send you my prayers. I will always remember Scott till the day I die. Always.

with deep regret, but with great admiration, love & respect,

John Navin

Dear Crane family, I first learned of Scott when he was featured on the news, some time back. I'm a regular at RIC and recall seeing Scott in the lobby shortly after that news cast aired. I stopped him, telling him i recognized him and spoke with him briefly, he was such a joy to speak to, brief as it was.
I recognized him immediately in the Trib and enjoyed learning more about him. Was pleased to see he lived such a full life and that food was such a passion for him. Know that on his behalf i will continue to be sure all restaurants are accessible, as this is a passion of mine.

My condolences...

Sincere condolences, what a remarkable young man, he accomplished in his lifetime what some never do in 50 or 60 yrs, this is why it is good sometimes as Eccl 7;1,2 says to go to the house of mourning, it truly causes us to reflect on how we are using our lives, Scott left his life's mark on many for years to come.

Dear Mike and family,

No expression of condolence can really ease the pain of loosing a son or daughter. Last year I lost my 11 year old nephew to cancer and the sadness still lingers. I have read some of the thoughts on the site and it provides some ease that he was much loved and lived life well.

We in Australia send you and the family our regards and sincere regret at your loss.

Dear Teena, Michael, and Lindsay,

Holding you all close in my hearts at this time. Scott was my first true friend. Some of my fondest childhood memories were spent with him and the family. I can remember the time you all had me over to watch Scott Crane appear on the West Wing. I was so proud of my friend. As the actor playing Scott stepped on the set for his big debut i can remember thinking... Scott is so much cooler than this guy! He was nothing compared to my friend! Scott's light shined brighter than most. Teena and Michael you made a beautiful son. I'll miss you Scott but I know our friendship lasts forever. My deepest love and sympathies.

Dear Crane Family: I work at The Land of Nod in Northbrook Court where Scott was a frequent visitor and friend. When he was written up in the newspapers, we cut out the stories and posted them on the bulletin board in our break area. Everyone knew Scott. He made an indelible impression on us all When he stopped working at the Corner Bakery, we all missed him terribly. We had heard he was in hospice care, but the next thing we knew, he was back in the store for a welcome visit. I'm honored to have known Scott, even for a little while. Please accept my heartfelt condolences.

Crane Family, Scott was an inspiration. My son is 24, with XL MTM, and now has a brain injury. When I was feeling low, Scott cheered me by asking about Bob, what he liked to do when he was able and what his life was like before the brain injury. This was so helpful to me. I loved seeing his daily quote, hearing about his "BFF" and Sister Lindsay, and his little dog. We shared recipes, something I loved too.
My family will greatly miss him. Kathy, Bob and Holly Hann
