Directly after graduating with a library degree, I accepted a job offer as reference librarian at the Harvey Public Library, where Renata had recently become the director. She was my mentor, schooling me in all of the practical aspects of librarianship. Always kind and considerate, Renata exemplified for me the perfect library director. Among many other gifts, she gave this "shy and reserved young man" the confidence to try public speaking, which has been of great benefit to me in later life. And as Rick has already mentioned, she always held the highest regard for the career of reference librarian -- my chosen profession. I will always remember you, Renata.

Renata was always kind and encouraging to me when we chatted at RASSL meetings and luncheons, ready to listened and thoughtful on library issues. She challenged me me to try running for RASSL leadership positions back in the 1980s.

I am saddened to hear of her passing.

Renata was one of the first librarians I met when I came to the area in 1981. While she was at the Harvey Public Library, she was organizing all the reference librarians in the southern suburbs of Chicago to help each other and all of their library clients. She was a key figure in the formation of RASSL (Reference Association of South Suburban Libraries) and was always a great library advocate. She will be missed.
