Chanda White Obituary
WOODWORTH - "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me…"
With this assurance, Chanda joyfully exchanged her cross for a crown on Saturday morning, October 29, 2011, in Alexandria, Louisiana.
Chanda Lynn White was born May 28, 1978 in Opelousas, LA to Andrew and Bernadell White and was the beloved sister to Christopher and Byron White. She lived up to the title of being the "baby" of the family. Living in a very close-knit community, Chanda always found happiness and security as a child. As a mother, her joy and pride was her son, Ethan Andrew, and that same laughter she exuded as a child can now be seen in him.
Chanda began her lifelong course of education at Lawtell Elementary and graduated from Northwest High School. She excelled as a student, community volunteer, and as an active church member, while also managing to achieve the highest Girl Scout ranking of Ambassador Girl Scout. Chanda graduated with honors from LSU with a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and continued her education at LSU Health Science Center at Shreveport where she received her Physician Assistant degree. She began practicing as a Physician Assistant under the direction of Dr. Calvin White, and subsequently joined the Veterans Affairs Outpatient Mental Health staff in March 2006.
During Chanda's tenure at the VA hospital in Alexandria, LA, she was always seen with a smile on her face, and she was encouraging and a blessing to her patients and staff alike. Several veterans expressed her warmth, compassion, and caring spirit, and her co-workers benefited from her professionalism and expertise by always being a leader and excelling in her craft. Due to her education and medical skills, her patients have committed to their treatment programs established by her, and as a consequence, they have shown immeasurable improvement in their health and quality of life.
Survivors include her husband, Donald Pickney of Woodworth, LA; her beloved son, Ethan Andrew Pickney; her parents, Mr. Andrew and Mrs. Bernadell White of Opelousas, LA; two brothers, Christopher Wayne (Cerise) White of Rockwall, TX, and Byron Lamar (Tracie) White of Arlington, TX; and a host of aunts, uncles, a nephew (Neiman Jacob White), a niece (Haelei Skye White), cousins, friends, and special friends (Alanna Carmon, Kimberly Bihm, and Dr. Rochelle Robicheaux).
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Lawrence and Eunice Riggs; and paternal grandparents, Persley and Lorena White.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations in her honor be made to St. Jude's Children Hospital Cancer Center.

Life does not get any easier without my "Baby Girl." Even though it is not easy we share beautiful memories each day. Her son, Ethan, is doing exceptional in his senior year. I know she would be so proud of him and prays for him each day. We miss her soo much!!

A special angel was needed in heaven. Ms. White had the best qualifications. Her human resume spoke of her qualifications and experiences on Earth and she was the best qualify for the job. Every time I drive through Lawtell I think of her. When I go to the Alexandria VA hospital I can still feel her present. Ms. White was a an outstanding provider to all her patients. She was a very caring and loving person. Heaven has a very special angel.

I know that the you hear me everytime I go through Lawtell, LA and tell you hi. I went to my appointment at the VA in Alexandria last week and I could feel your present in the room. I used to ask why you were taking from us at such a young age. But now I realized that when the good Lord read the resumes for the Very Special Angel job, you had the very best qualifications. Everytime I drive through Lawtell, LA I always say "Hi Ms. White" when I drive pass the Catholic Church across the store on the one way. I miss Ms. White as not only as my provider, but also as a true friend that cared and cherished life. To Ms. White's son Ethan and family just remember that you have a very special angel in heaven.

Today, May 28th, would have been Chanda's 34th birthday. She always enjoyed her birthday with her family, simply sharing an iced cupcake and reminiscing about her accomplishments and milestones. God blessed her with many achievements within a short time.I often told her she was a fortunate young lady, not knowing that God allowed this in her brief life on earth. The thought of Chanda's tragic death lingers within me every minute of the day, from the time I awake to the time I fall asleep. People may have tried to imagine how I feel, but no one will ever know how much I miss her. My only source of comfort is believing that she is joyfully in heaven where there is no pain. Our times together will live on and will forever be part of me.
As sorrowful as my life has been over the past seven months, God has blessed us with her little angel, Ethan. He is a precious gift and she would be proud of him. This is very often echoed as he ask me, "Are you proud of me Ne Ne?"
Thanks to everyone who has and is still praying for our family. Your condolences, thoughts and concerns have been reminders of how much she was loved. "Expressions from her loving Mom."

I literally found out about Chanda's passing an hour ago from my mother's nurse Joanna who is Chris's high school classmate, Joanna. I met Chanda when she was in high school while visiting and meeting the White family for the first time as a close friend to Chris. We were engineering classmates at SU. She had a beautiful, sassy, smart and outgoing personality. I am stunned, shocked and saddened at the lose of my friend's sister, Mr. & Mrs. White's daughter, Ethan's mom, Byron's sister and everthing Chanda was and represented to those who knew and loved her for a lifetime or for a brief encounter. Dr. Chandra White was my Dr. Everyday I have to pass where she lived and died. I always think of her and her family. It hurt me so much to think about what happened to her I am stil to this day unable to go back to the clinic. She was such a sweet young lady and so accomplished. I pray for her and her family. However, Mrs. White, Home Eco.teacher at Lawtell High School who taught me to never give up on your dreams when at one point I thought my dreams were gone. Ms. White was my provider at the Alexandria VA Hospital. The first day I meet her she made me feel that she was a very caring person. As time went by I find out that her and my neice had went to school together at Northwest in Praire Ronde. If i missed an appointment she would personnally call me to reschedule. In her office was her son picture that she loved so much. My last appointment I asked her where did she get her very compassionate ways and people skills. Ms. White said that her mother was a peoples person. Ms. White also told me about a family friend that her mother loved as if her was own son. Ms. White. Ms. White loved her family and friends. I feel truely blessed to have had her in my life, not only as a provider, but someone who really cared about her patients and beleived in God.

Chanda White was a choosen one, She choose to live her life helping others and honoring the Lord. She was an angel and a helper to me when I was enrolled in LSUE and we met up again when she was at LSUHSC-Shreveport. I was a much older student and was fortunate to have wonderful people around me like Chanda to help me. I have always admirred her beautiful smile and carrying nature. I want her mother and father to know that it was the younger students like Chanda that helped me to understand Trig, Chemistry, Physics, and many more classes to allow me to be where I am today.
