James Shiveley Obituary
On Saturday, June 13, 2015 Dr. James Ross Shiveley (Doc) went home to his heavenly father while vacationing in his favorite home away from home, Coronado, CA.
He was born February 16, 1939 in Ogallala, NE and became a lifelong resident of Albuquerque in December, 1941. He loved sports, and in grade school he was the batboy for the Albuquerque Dukes. He graduated from Highland High School.
He joined the Navy in 1956. After the Navy he found his passion for medicine by becoming a Lab and X-ray Tech. He obtained his Doctorate degree from Osteopathic Medical and Surgery School in Des Moines, IA. In 1969 he opened his medical practice in Albuquerque and never retired.
He was a Club Master Bridge player and baseball player throughout college and an avid golfer at the Albuquerque Country Club during his adult life. In the early 1970's he began his lifelong love of horses. He was a member of the NM Horse Breeders Association for over 40 years. His contribution to the sport in this state was substantial. He bred over 300 NM Bred horses and won over 200 races in his career. He was instrumental in shaping today's NM Bred incentives. He was honored in 2005 by induction into Lineage Legend. Doc also served as the attending physician at the Albuquerque Downs Race Track as well as several local sporting venues for many years.
He is survived by his loving partner and soulmate of 17 years, Annette Arrigoni; his mother, Viola Shiveley Christman, 94; sister, Ruth (Sissy) Shiveley Colwell (Jim); nephew, Doug E. Johnson; niece, Susan Johnson; great-nephew, Royce E. Slawson; great-great-nephew, Axel R. Slawson, all from El Paso, TX; ex-wife, Patsy Lemon of Albuquerque; and very close friend, Ken Corazza.
He was preceded in death by his father, Denzil Wright Shiveley, and brother, Denzil Wright Shiveley, Jr.
Celebration of his life will be held Friday, June 19, 2015 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. at Albuquerque Country Club, 601 Laguna Blvd. SW, 87104. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Casa Angelica Foundation, PO Box AA, Albuquerque NM 87103. Please visit the online guest book for Doc at

My Father Doroteo Rendon worked for this man all his life..my father was 18 years old when he started working for Dr. James. I was 6 years old and I remember him and his wife Pat..they were great people..My father Doroteo is now 62 years old and alive and well thank the Lord. But im sure he misses James as he was with him for so many years.
