KENNETH JAMES TORRES, 28, was taken from us on July 25, 2008. He had two homes at the time of his death, one in Lantana, FL and one in Red Bluff, CA. Kenneth was born in New Bedford, MA on November 10, 1979. He attended college and received a B.S. in accounting but soon decided that accounting was not for him. Kenneth loved to sing and had a beautiful voice. He enjoyed making everyone laugh with his antics and impersonations, often at the expense of family or friends. He was a gifted artist. His only goal in life was wanting to take care of his family and make our lives easier.
Kenny was one of the joys in my life. His smile could light up a room. There was never anything I could do that Kenny would not forgive me for. He made me feel like I was the most important woman in his life. He and his brother loved to surprise me with their visits. He was very protective of his siblings. Sometimes much to their dismay, but, always with the best intentions.
Kenneth was born in New Bedford, MA on November 10, 1979. He is my first born son. Kenneth was always in a hurry and his birth was no different. He was delivered 30 minutes after I arrived at the hospital.
We lived in Massachusetts for his first nine years. Growing up he was a shy boy and lacked confidence in himself. We moved to Calif where he attended many schools because we had to move several times. It made it difficult to make any lasting childhood friendships. He and his cousins Michael and Steven became great friends and their friendship was eternal. Of course his best friend of all times was his brother Michael.
The boys moved to Florida when they were in high school. The children that were still home with me and I drove to Florida for his high school graduation. The boys were together their whole life and I take great comfort in that. At one point they shared an apartment. I went out to visit them and Kenny would apologize for not being able to spend much time with me because he had to work and do his school work. It was enough for me to just be in the same house as the boys. Knowing how much I love the ocean, they took me deep sea fishing so I could be right in the middle of the ocean.
Kenny later joined the Air Force. I flew to Texas to attend his boot camp graduation. It was a special time for the both of us. We went to the Alamo and saw a movie on one of those bigger than life screens. I don't remember the name of it. He later decided that the Air Force was not for him and left.
While he was there, he became great friends with Hacker. They always called each other by their last names. I would even venture to say that they were more like brothers than friends. They kept in contact over the years and Hacker had hoped for Kenny to move with him and begin their own business.
Hacker told me that Kenny would always tease him about being the smartest person Hacker ever knew. Kenny scored a 98 on his ASVAB test to enter the Air Force, Hacker scored a 96. In turn Hacker would also tell Kenny that he was the smartest person Kenny knew.
Kenny fell into some bad times the last six months of his life but he was on his way out of it. When Kenneth had to move from his apartment, his friend Kyle took Kenny's cat in. He still has the cat today. Kyle was a friend he could depend on, one of Kenny's best friends, and I thank Kyle for that.
But, when it comes right down to it, it was family that mattered most to Kenny. We are the best of friends. He and his brother Michael were together their whole life. Whenever the boys went to Florida they went together. When they couldn't be together, they called each other. True life friends, best friends. At one point they even shared an apartment. His youngest brother and sisters all looked up to Kenny. When in need of advice, they would call Kenny. Whenever something new happened in his brother, Adam's, life he would call Kenny and Michael to share it, trying to stay as close to his brothers as possible.
He was planning on coming home and even began changing the address on his mail. Somewhat of a shock to receive mail for him after he was taken from me but at least I knew he was on his way. My baby was coming home.
The people that did this to him have no idea how much devastion they have brought to my famiy's life.

So many years have passed but not a day goes by that you aren´t remembered or missed.
One of my favorite memories are of you and Michael surprising me at work. I couldn´t believe my boys were home.
I love and miss you.
