I was on Tom's dorm floor during our second year of law school. I remember him as always being friendly and cheerful, and I also remember his coin collection (including Roman coins).
My deepest condolences to Tom's family.

What an amazing collection of tributes and memories of Tom, from high school on!!! Someday it would be wonderful to read the 2009, unpublished bi-partisan article on Afghanistan mention by Barnett Rubin. Tom had a unique life and unique experiences on this very small planet. I, for one, would value reading his words and perspective. His life and work touched so many people. Hugs to dear Kathy, Emilie and Thomas. Thinking of you so often.

Julius and family I am terribly saddened by your loss. Tom seemed to me to be a great son, father and husband, I know he came from a great family. Sorrow is often the pain in life that those left behind must bare, but memories are the joy of a life well lived. Once again please accept my deepest sympathy

May your entire family be allowed to swim in the beauty of GOd's peace, bathe in the presence of our Living God's love and be immersed in God's healing during this time and beyond. Tom Schweich was a brilliant man, an honorable man and a blessing to all of us. May he rest in God's peace. Thank you for letting us have him as long as we were able. Heaven's been given another angel. Missouri's praying!

The news that Tom has passed on is very disturbing--our community benefitted from his ethics and his brilliance. My heart goes out to his family and then also to his friends and close associates. For whatever the reasons behind his death, the loss is simply tragic.

I came to know Tom when he was working on counter-narcotics in Afghanistan. He and I had different opinions on some things, but we also found that agreed on a lot, and I think we came to like and respect each other. He always took the time to engage. Tom was very serious, he worked hard, and, most important, he cared. Politics was not a game for him. Even though I have not seen him in years, now I miss him. I had forgotten, but he and I co-authored an unpublished (bipartisan) article on Afghanistan in January 2009, during the transition. I just found it today and wonder if the family would like to have it. I also found that Tom got in touch with me in 2011 about Emilie's application to NYU. I would like to send my condolences to Emilie and all of the family.

Dear Schweich Family,
I have met Tom on two occasions, the first when he spoke to the English Speaking Union in 2008. The second time was in 2012 at a Republican fundraiser. Both times I was impressed by both the intellect and the genuineness of this public servant.
Please accept my deepest condolences. Your husband and father was a fine man. All of us share in your loss.

My first impression of Tom was: "Oh my gosh! This man is courageous and relentless!" I felt secure knowing he was looking out for Missouri citizens. No words can help at this time. Only God in His mercy can give your family strength. Know that Missourians such as myself and my family deeply, truly honored and knew the value of Tom Schweich. So many unknown faces and voices are sending prayers to God for you.
